He literally is on the first year of a five year deal. If we extend him, it better be to get his cap figure down.

Again, anything we can do to sweeten the pot and have him pick us over another team is fine with me.

Many here thinks that’s the case just because David Newton said so and people jumped to it for clicks.

No that’s not the case at least for me. There have been multiple reports from different outlets saying the panthers are aggressively trying to get him. There is also a poster here, verge who has shared sources from scouts she knows for years that have been right on the money.

Most people here aren’t seeing this as a done deal, just that there is a chance and there’s a lot of smoke.

you had made it seem that deshaun would 100% not come here and would flex his no trade clause. That’s a bit different then what you’re saying now. And that’s fine.

Not surprising that he wants to be a Jet at all. Players these days think beyond the football field.

The one thing I will say is that you can still be a huge star without a big market, depending on the power of your stardom.

But, it definitely doesn't hurt to be in that big market where ESPN and other national media outlets will give you way more coverage and therefore your endorsements will skyrocket.

That is 100% a real thing.

It’s not about trade capital and what we can give. I explained this to y’all with Stafford and y’all didn’t listen. It’s even more so the case with DW.

You didn't explain anything to me I told people that Stafford wasn't coming here from the beginning because he was not interested in a rebuild at all. I follow this stuff.

As for Watson, if he decides that he doesn't want to go to the Jets (which is very possible) because he believes that his contract would set them back and render them pretty useless for several years, then he won't go to the Jets. If in fact he is considering the Panthers (as has been reported), we have a legitimate shot at landing him. We have the capital, and we have the resources to placate the Texans, and we have DW's ear (so to speak), so I don't know what your theory is. At this point, we are a legit contender for his services, if he decides that he's never playing for the Texans again.

I think anyone speaking in certainties on this situation is setting themselves up to look like a jackass in general, but honestly if I'm a betting man I'm betting he doesn't play another game for the Texans. I actually have a $20 bet with a buddy for exactly that. Back up y'all. Big baller coming through.

I agree, even though I know that the trade will go down March 5 for 3 firsts and Burns and Watson will arrive in Charlotte on American Airlines flight 322 at 3:34 PM.  He will wear #4 for the Panthers, since Kasay shanked the kickoff in Super Bowl 38, preventing that jersey number from every being retired.

For what it is worth, the Texans are telling pretty much everyone that Watson is not available, but the internal price keeps rising. Teams know what the cost is. 3-4 1st rounders, or 2-3 1st rounders and a great young starter.

Two firsts and Burns. Sign Von Miller. Draft BB replacement. The end. This isn’t rocket science.

You're discounting our young talented players who are extremely compelling as trade capital, and you're totally discounting Watson's wishes in the matter. And, honestly, both the Jets and the Dolphins would have to be willing to give up their picks (and Houston would have to be interested in Tua or Darnold).

Where is it reported he is considering the panthers

That was reported weeks ago. I wouldn't make an overly big deal about it, but I wouldn't discount it either. It makes a lot of sense. He has ties relatively close to Charlotte, and is interested in "coming home."

All true. I’m surprised he would want to go there (coach aside). They have no talent on that roster and losing the capital required to get him would make it tough to field a decent team around him.
You are right though. If he wants to be a Jet, and they really want to go all in on him, he will be a Jet.

The thing with the Jets is that they're currently set up to acquire a BUNCH of talent with all their additional picks.

So, theoretically, they could cash all of that in NOW to pick up this uber-Franchise QB monster that you can't possibly compete without. Sure, it slows down their rebuild somewhat (1 talented, guaranteed NFL player at the most important position of need rather than 3-4 potential talented NFL players) , but they're not selling their future for him - they'd just be resetting their Draft capital back to the norm.

The Jets and the Dolphins are the only two places that it makes sense for Watson to go. Everyone else, with that price tag, is selling their future for him. So unless you think the rest of your team is in place for 2-3 years and this guy is going to put you over the top, steer well clear.

    • Everyone. Just take a chill pill. It’s Cinco De Mayo. We didn’t get blown out or lose a close game(0-0 3rd overtime). We showed we have fight and beat them on 5v5 easily. Which shakes them more than us not being good on PK. Because everyone knows when we are slow we have bad faceoff goals on the PK.
