NBC's Peter King wont be suprised if Mac Jones goes ahead of Lance

One season versus a career? That's what meant about getting caught up in the moment.  Will Mac Jones be better than Lance in 2021?  Probably.  Who is going to help out their team in the long run and have the better career.  That would be Lance, no question.  If some team takes Mac Jones over Trey Lance for immediate help in the short term, that is simply and utterly moronic.

Lance is far from assured of even being a legitimate NFL quarterback. You need more than athleticism to be a great quarterback. He is the highest risk of any QB who may be taken in the first round. Jones is a proven winner playing in a similar style to what we will employ. Funny how a guy who has played 1 game in the last 400 days is going to be better than the guy who just won the national championship.

It's not his fault he hasn't played; it's not like it's injury related.  Jones will struggle when the competition is finally up to par with the talent on his side of the ball.  Yeah, everyone on Bama has a national championship and the very reason why kids from all over the county go there--to win national championships.   Jones will struggle, I have zero doubt.

No doubt that Alabama is a powerhouse and they benefit from superior talent in most games. But you can't paint every QB from Alabama the same exact way. Truth is Alabama was a force because of Jones not in spite of him.

And while it isn't Lances fault he didn't play but one game in 400 days it isn't something to ignore and act as if it wasn't important. And let's remember that North Dakota State in their division has a talent advantage just as big as Alabama but they have a much lower level of competition.

He isn't a statue. Chris Sums has his rankings out and he has Jones thirf and says he may no have as big a cannon as some of the others guys but is athletic, moves well in the pocket and can make all the throws

Chris Simms based athletic QB on his athleticism..  Anybody compared to him is athletic....

Mac looks dumpy and slow . Moving in a clean pocket is 1 thing but let's not act like he has dealt with the pass rush he'll see in the NFL... So we don't  really know how good he is in moving in a pocket.

Like I said I  don't believe in non mobile QB with avg. Arm strength..

I'm sorry..

Give me the athlete and teach him...

The fear is that Jones could be similar to a Greg McLeroy or AJ McCarron because he had possibly even better talent then they did. He should be better than them, but anything close to that doesn’t warrant a first round pick. I think if he goes to the right team he can be a solid QB. I just don’t think we are that team at this moment.

The problem you have with all these QBs is that they're potentially great IF.

Jones and Lawrence are the only ones who are really NFL ready and you know what you're getting right now.

Fields is raw - that Ohio St system didn't do him any favours. Wilson needs to rework his footwork. Lance needs a boat load of work across the board.

So if you're an NFL GM you've got to really trust your QB Coach to take a few of these guys. There's no guarantee you can change someone's footwork / ability to process information at this stage of their career.

Josh Allen is the poster boy, but I think he's an outlier.

Everyone is taking that 1 picture of him and deciding he is dumpy and slow but if you watch him play that isn't true. He makes good decisions, is elusive and moves well in the pocket. In college guys don't focus on football alone and aren't pushed like in the NFL. He wont ever look like Cam but he doesn't need to. And if we pick up Jones and he ends up being a good backup then he was on a rookie contract and cheap, no huge deal. Versus given up to 5 or 6 first round picks between players and picks for a known quantity. Our system isn't built around a dual threat QB but a highly accurate quick thinking smart QB who is elusive in the pocket. He has a good deep ball and can make all the throws and understands the game.  It is very hard to find an athletic QB who has all those qualities as well.

The fact that Houston wants so much for Watson suggests how difficult and rare it is find a guy who checks all the boxes.

no interest in lance. he saw an opportunity to excuse himself from having to reproduce his awesome season the year prior. you choose to let down your teammates (your family), your school (who lost a record winning streak in your absence), and chose sitting at home over playing the game that you're supposed to be obsessed with and tirelessly dedicated to improving. he was afraid his stock was going to tumble with a less than stellar season and he let that fear prevent him from improving as a football player with live reps and allowing scouts to get a better look at him. what challenges is he going to hide from at the next level? if he's acting that self-interested in college, who is going to follow him in the pro game?

if you love football, if you love the game, you live and breathe for Saturday. you put in all the work and Saturday is the reward, it's not an audition for NFL teams, it's a chance to go out with your squad and get repaid in cheers for all the hard work you put in during the two-a-days in the summer. he passed on dessert because he didn't have enough self belief to bet on himself and if he doesn't even believe in him, why should anyone else?

    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
