by his own admission he didn't opt out because of covid, he said plainly himself that he opted out to "prepare for the NFL draft on his own." go look it up.

And he looked significantly worse in the one game he played last year.

I shudder to think what he's fuged up mechanically working out on his own all year.

Everyone is taking that 1 picture of him and deciding he is dumpy and slow but if you watch him play that isn't true. He makes good decisions, is elusive and moves well in the pocket. In college guys don't focus on football alone and aren't pushed like in the NFL. He wont ever look like Cam but he doesn't need to. And if we pick up Jones and he ends up being a good backup then he was on a rookie contract and cheap, no huge deal. Versus given up to 5 or 6 first round picks between players and picks for a known quantity. Our system isn't built around a dual threat QB but a highly accurate quick thinking smart QB who is elusive in the pocket. He has a good deep ball and can make all the throws and understands the game.  It is very hard to find an athletic QB who has all those qualities as well.

The fact that Houston wants so much for Watson suggests how difficult and rare it is find a guy who checks all the boxes.

I don't need a Cam but you have to be Atleast as athletic as a Burrow Jones or Herbert.  And I totally don't understand what team you were watching last year.. There were alot of design QB runs and Draws also some RPO plays all in this offense...  I don't see a good offense going forward in today's NFL without RPO and QB run plays that really make defenses fear the play action pass...

If we had a Superior oline Mac Jones would probably do decent here we already have good weapons .

That same thing had been said about Teddy Bridgewater.

I know that Cosell's mouth isn't a prayer book, but when someone like him calls Jones a "bad athlete" who has "almost no ability to play outside structure whatsoever," I tend to listen, because that's strong language.

At least Teddy has some mobility.

This is the Panthers were talking about not New England. Alot might be an extreme exaggeration. Teddy toothpick Bridgewater didn't run much which is why he had success when he did. It was not typical of his pass it short philosophy.  I am sure Jones would be that successful if not more. Is he my first choice, no, but he won't be a bad choice if we pick him.  If we pick early we can roll the dice again.  If we draft late next year then we might have our guy .

I'd rather draft Micah Parsons at #8 than Mac Jones and I absolutely do NOT want to draft an off the ball LB in the top 10.

If we stay at 8 I am 99.9% sure Lance (or possibly Fields) will be there.  In the statistical abnormality that all 4 are gone then trading back is the only answer

I'm significantly less sold on Fields or Lance being there, but I 100% agree that if it's not QB we should be trading down if the opportunity presents itself. IF we make a non-QB pick then the only two positions that make sense to me is LT or shutdown CB. But if we're sitting on the clock at #8 still needing a QB with none available that we want, then we probably need to be trying to secure an extra 1st in '22 because we're likely having these same QB conversations leading up to next year's draft and may need additional trade ammo to have a shot.

Dude QBs are going 1 through 4.  Count on it.

If we aren’t picking in the top 4 you are looking at Jones, Trask or Mond which IMO isnt really an answer to our QB problem.

Maybe Jones can be serviceable but he is probably the worst athlete at QB in the NFL if so.

It doesn’t matter we are trading for Watson

    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
    • I hear you but yeah like you say, above average. His numbers were good. You’d think it would be a no brainer. Anyhow… I guess the new staff is also fine with him walking?    I hope if we sign him there isn’t some secret issue of his that led to him not being valued.
