My fear is that Cincy and Detroit both go tackle.

Detroit would move Slater to RT.

Maybe Cincy takes Slater and Detroit values someone else more than drafted Sewell and moving him to RT...

I fear the Bengals more than I do the Lions, but both are possibilities.

To me, they should be focusing on Sewell or Slater now with pick 8.  If, somehow, Fields drops to 8 they really have to think long and hard about it.  I doubt he is, but....

Our QB depth chart has been one layer deep for 2 or 3 seasons now.  As of this second, we have Darnold and TB.  Even if that sticks, TB is gone after this next season, if not sooner.  Either way, it would give us the luxury of checking out Darnold for a while and if he is fool's gold, Fields comes in later in the season, after some time to acclimate.

If Fields wins the job but Darnold did not stink up the joint, Darnold can be traded for something downstream, or simply left to find other opportunities when his rookie deal expires.  Or maybe he sticks around as the backup.

The move certainly gives us some options.

But barring that, I am drafting the beef at #8.  After that, I am looking at more beef on the interior OL, DT, CBs, maybe a TE, and WR depth, in the order that the available talent presents itself.

Sounds like there is little chance Teddy lasts past June 1st.

You have to think the Bengals are a 100% lock to take a tackle.

Had the media not fallen in love with Sewell so long ago, Slater would be getting a lot more attention right now. If Slater is there at 8, I’m sprinting the card to the podium

The wild card with the Bengals is that Joe Burrow is reportedly pushing hard for Chase, who in all likelihood will be available with their pick.

My response to that is "Dude, you got snapped in half last year and you want a receiver? Yikes!"

But I'm not him, so...

It’s Slater or Sewell. If both are gone you trade back. Hopefully Denver stays at 9 and Washington or New England want to move up.

My trade back target is Darrisaw.

Jaycee Horn is awfully tempting but you have to give Darnold a LT. You traded for him in hopes of turning around his career. He needs a LT to have a shot at that

I'm a Darrisaw stan, and I'm not 100% ready to hand him LT day one here. He might be the guy, but feel a lot better putting Moton at LT to start camp and see if Darrisaw unseats him. VT didn't run a pro offense and I have issues gauging his readiness as a pass blocker and hold up on the blind side. Now as a run blocker, he's ready, just a little more urgency to flowing thru to the 2nd and 3rd level from what I've seen would do him good. Though that could also be scheme/coaching that has him ensure his lane is cleared before he goes to the next level.

Another option would be chase Orlando Brown. That make for a nice pair with Moton.  Now 8 straight up for Brown is a non starter but we have the highest overall to give in a pick package if the ravens send picks with brown. They can go get the cheaper RT replacement of slater for Brown if they wish.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
