Darnold's grandfather, Dick Hammer,  was a Marlboro Man

Sam Darnold is the grandson of former Marlboro Man actor Dick Hammer TheRally | Tim Doyle | Scoopnest

Also an athlete, an actor and a fireman:

Quote

Hammer was a basketball player at the University of Southern California, and competed in volleyball at the 1964 Summer Olympics. As an actor, he played the role of Captain Richard "Dick" Hammer in the first season of the Jack Webb produced television show Emergency!, which debuted on January 15, 1972. He left the show midway through the first season, because he felt that being a real-life firefighter was more rewarding than playing a fictional one. He returned to the LACoFD and retired with the rank of Captain.

Hammer portrayed the Marlboro Man in cigarette advertisements in the 1970s.

    • FLA showed everyone it’s not about superstars. they bullied the best line in the NHL into obscurity. they played hard, were in the right positions, and ran over everything that got in their way.
    • That’s really not what you said and when I even expressed doubt as to your intentions with the post you doubled down and remained unclear on whether you were trying to drag Dean Smith for whatever reason. You just got the facts wrong, which if you don’t follow the local college programs like you say then maybe you just were mistaken and thought Smith didn’t win championships or have legit superstars, and that is ok, but you just doubled down when my first post was more corrective than anything. I’m not sure what you expect posting objectively false things like “RBA has a lot of wins with nothing to show for it like Dean Smith” (paraphrasing) on a message board with plenty of UNC fans. I’m not taking it as a personal affront, we can agree to disagree, Dean Smith’s legacy fortunately will not be affected by this conversation. Screw the (Florida) Panthers?
    • Bring in the free agents and trades.  Florida is the best team and unless Tulsky makes it happen, it’s more of the same…which isn’t bad…but it’s time to win a goddamn cup.
