apparently there was some drama in our draft room

Recommended Posts

I wasn't happy with the trading down, and down, and down. I think we passed up on some sure things in an effort to get quantity. I've been told to trust the process and the board, trust that the coach knows what he needs and our new GM knows what he is doing.

Okay, I'm certainly going to try.

September is a long way off and it's going to be a long wait to see the plan fall into place. I just don't think I've got the patience for another 5-11 (6-11/5-12 now) year in me. If we can't begin moving forward then I'm going to lose all faith in Rhule.

We've got some outstanding talent here in CMC and Moore, Brown and Burns, Chinn and Moton. We've got a kicker that will probably break the longest FG record (and miss a hunk of them, too) and a former first round draft pick QB who can hopefully become what he should have been.

I just don't want 2021's season to be like the one before: a 16-week binge watching of Scrubs. I don't want to see another rendition of the "Team that almost won."

I mean there were some people on here that questioning some of the picks and were labeled "overreacting" so this isnt surprising people in the actually draft room felt the same. "Calculated risks" is the perfect label for this just draft, there was a clear area of huge need or needs on the roster that this draft would have fixed but they chose to go a alternate direction. It is what is, but if this backfires you best believe its gonna be sparks flying around within that staff regarding Fitt.

I mean, I doubt Rhule and the new GM even agree on every decision in real time.   Then you have the natural O and D splits.

I don’t get the feeling it was a confrontation between Rhule and Fitts. I think if there was a specific player rhule wanted we would have gone after that player earlier when we could. Unless fitts has the final say, but I don’t see that with what Tepper wants from Rhule. It sounds like either Brady got frustrated or Tepper was “gimme a fugging LT” and fitts said trust the board. we had ample chances to get a starting LT and rhule/fitts decided to go corner/WR so...

I mean the boss the is the boss.  I mean, at work here we all can have 3 different solid opinions on a problem.  Boss takes it all and makes the call.   That's just life.

I mean reports are Fields was in the mix until the end for example? That means clearly someone had to think that was the right call.  Same with pick 2.  Different takes.  Same with probably most picks.

I'm not implying not agreeing in real time has to be confrontational.   I can disagree with my boss and then go to work on what he thinks is best.  That's just how it works.

I fugging told y’all. Outsmarted themselves with that first trade down in the second. That’s why this draft is a low grade for me.

I am a fan that wanted one of the top 2 LT's.  Fact is, after that, there was a huge drop off. Once in the 2nd round, there isn't enough difference between what went ahead of us and what we ended up getting in the 3rd.  I can easily argue that Christianson is as good as anybody we could have gotten in the 2nd,  and is a better fit for this team since our coach staff prefer their linemen to be able to play multiple positions across the line.

So go ahead, keep your way to early low score on the draft.

Go ahead, thump your chest about what you think.

While the Panthers will just.move on with what they got.

I'd rather have Marshall and Christensen than Liam Eichenberg and the 3rd round receivers, not sad at all about the other tackles that went (mostly RT's)

I would have been on board trading down in the 1st to pick up an extra 2nd and would rather have had Fairley and Moehrig over just Horn, but that's whatever.

Still think LT is a need and Christensen will be a great LG

Same. Most of the time I type things (especially in Tinder Box) that will surely stir up something. Playing Devils Advocate is fun.

    • Not looking good for TB. Buffalo and Habs fans are the worst so I will be cheering for the meteor.
    • Arguing about who had what and who did what with more is just going to end in the same charades. If we're going to waste a lot of hot air arguing then make it about something that cannot be denied. What you are seeing with your own two eyes. Cam Newton was a tremendously talented athlete albeit flawed in fundamental aspects. And although he played poorly in and lost a Super Bowl you cannot deny him that more often than not through his prime his teammates knew they could count on him to hold up his end of the bargain usually and be a key driving force for keeping them in games. Giving his defense much needed rest and motivation in wanting to match his grit as a competitor. That aspect is just not there with Bryce Young. Yeah he's dumped on the Falcons in a dome twice but what about his other 44 games? When has the Panthers defense the last three years ever looked at their starting quarterback and thought to themselves "man I'm so glad he's my QB"?
    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
