20 - Too early but if Derrick Brown doesn't show strides of elite status this year being selected that high, then he starts to fall into that category. You take a DT that high, he should be Donald level.

19 - Little. Not even close. Grier was a reach when we needed something. Had some playing time. It's Little.

18 - Gaulden.

17 - Samuel simply because he's not here. Good top 3 draft.

16 - Eesh. Butler. Worley still in the league but he's awful.

15 - Funchess

14 - Both Ealy and Benjamin had their moments. Williams is still on the Bills. Have to go Ealy.

13 - Star because injuries and Short ended up being better

12 - lol amini

11 - Cam. Never won us a super bowl.

10 - Pickles is a given, but he fell to the second. I'm going Armanti Edwards

09 - Brown

08 - Otah. One good year. Pure garbage.

07 - Jarrett. Cost us keyshawn too.

06 - Butler never did squad. Rest had solid career.

05 - lol shelton

04 - Colbert

03 - We need one of these drafts next year. Seidman was a blocker, that was it.

02 - Out of the three, Foster

01 - Damn, who was our GM? Ron Wolf? Maybe Morgan because of injuries?

00 - Anderson

99 - Terry

98 - Peter

97 - Carruth

96 - Biaka

95 - King

Uuuuhhh, yeah. This is a horrible list.

Why do some of you guys always hate on Otah? The man was a stud RT when healthy during his short career in Carolina. Injuries derailed his career. It’s not like he couldn’t play.

Wasn’t just the injury. He got lazy. But I wouldn’t consider him a bust.

Grier was technically a 3 round pick, beat out by a practice field/XFL guy…I’d say a third rounder than can’t even get a backup QB slot is a bust. But he meets Hurney’s requirement of being homegrown, apparently that means a lot to some people.

It’s the Panthers, and considering they didn’t even have 2/3 for a a lot of the years in the past decade, this is pretty sad, generous definition of the word bust:

Clausen, Edwards, Little, Gaulden, Fua

Butler, Worley, Brown, McClain, are teetering.

Past that…a bit better:

Irving, Jarrett, Nelson, Seidman, Anderson, Marrow (injuries), Carruth (duh, Tatum, Oliver, Price (injuries),

Teetering: Jordan, Terry.

So roughly the same number the past decade as the first decade. Don’t know exact number of 1-3 picks each decade had but I’d guess at least 5 of not near 10 more 1-3 round picks for the first decade of Panthers existence.

Blocked that one out of my memory.

I would say the top bust was Clausen. He was truly one of the worst QB’s I’ve ever seen play.  Hurney apparently wanted to trade up for him too, which probably would’ve been our 2011 1st rounder aka #1 overall pick.  Dodged a bullet there.  But his abysmal play has granted him my top spot.

He was awful

fox even played that guy off the street one week he was so bad

I personally consider third round picks to be rolls of the dice - well at least for a franchise like ours.

The franchises that consistently win consistently hit on those old 'first day' picks.

So, with my criteria of ruling out third round picks as potential busts, my top 5 (in no particular order):

  • Dwayne Jarrett
  • Bruce Nelson
  • Rashard Anderson
  • Rae Carruth
  • Eric Shelton

Jeff Otah has to be on that list.

Vernon Butler never gets mentioned, but is definitely Top3

Jimmy Clausen and Armanti Edwards should tie for 3rd.

Vernon Butler is in no way top 3 haha, definetly a bad pick but he stayed on the team for 4 years and his last year here picked up 6 sacks.

1. Armanti Edwards ...waste of time and draft capital. Think of converting a lesser version of Russel Wilson to WR.

2. Dwayne Jarrett ... smdh

I wanna say Grier but it may be too early. I'd still take Clausen over him at this point in career. That said...

#3: Jimmy Clausen ...+ we tried to trade into the back end of the first for this guy. I've atleast seen him throw a few catchable balls.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
