Yeah this makes sense if we can protect him from getting poached by other teams.

Will Grier just smoked PJ Walker this preseason. 

PJ Walker played in 3 preseason games and did not complete more than half his passes in any game. 16 of 39 passing for a completion percentage of 41% - 252 yards passing, 1 touchdown to go along with 1 carry for 4 yards. 

Will Grier played in 3 preseason games and did not complete less than 60% of his passes in any game. 22 of 31 passing for a completion percentage of 71% - 222 yards passing, 0 touchdowns passing to go along with 7 carries for 32 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. 

If Will Grier just dirted the next 8 passes to have the same amount of throws as PJ he would still have a better completion percent by about 15%. That is how badly PJ Walker just performed. If Rhule wants to reward guys for making progress over where they were a year ago, Grier has improved where it looks like Walker has regressed. If Walker is the 2 its just because he was at Temple.

      CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep.       You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
