And that right there is why casual fans never understood the magnificent play of Chris Gamble. Quiet guy who just shut down half the field on every passing play. If Horn ends up almost as good as Gamble, then we're going to be doing great.

I’m re watching all the defensive snaps right now and just focusing on him. Elijah Moore is probably one happy dude that he doesn’t have to see Jaycee again anytime soon. 
 

Yeah Jaycee played the TD ball extremely well. The ball was just thrown low. Jaycee had his arm in Corey’s mid section. Zach puts that ball on Corey’s chest it’s an incomplete pass

Like the old saying goes, there's no defense for a perfectly executed pass. Horn had great coverage on that play and Wilson threw a perfect pass. If it's slightly underthrown, Horn breaks it up or possibly picks it off. Slightly overthrown and it sails wide uncatchable. It had to be perfect and it was. That's just how it goes in the NFL sometimes.

Jaycee is a more physical version of Gamble.

I think Wilson's arm was on full display there.  The zip on that pass was next level

He actually did get a hand on it but it deflected right into Davis hands. It was just pure luck if you ask me.

The last two plays on that drive:

Pass over the middle to a crossing Davis, Horn take an awful angle and barely touches Davis on a tackle attempt. He starts the tackle like four yards early which is why it was so easy for him to get tapped to the ground. He basically missed him.

On the next play they go right at him for the score. I don't believe this was perfect positioning. If you look at the play in slow motion the only guy running routes that had any separation was the guy Horn was covering. Everything over the middle was completely covered. Our guys were within inches of their guys. Horn was a full yard+ as Davis breaks to the right. Screenshot attached. 

Then as far as a pass, that was also not perfect. A perfect pass would have continued to carry Davis towards the sideline where he wouldn't have been touched. He had to slow down and basically stop and turn his entire body back to the QB. If the WR comes back towards the ball then Horn has no play. If Wilson throws the ball closer to the sideline, where he still has a few yards full of open space before going out of bounds, Horn has no play. The only reason Horn had a play at all is because Wilson is a rookie and did not place the ball perfectly and his WR didn't come back to it. The one thing this play showed is that he can take advantage of his arm strength until teams get a better read on his velocity. Screenshot to show how much of the sideline was open and how the WR had to stop and turn back to the QB to catch the ball. 

People are hyped about the rookies. Thats the only reason this is called a "perfect pass" with "perfect placement" and claim Horn was in "perfect positioning". 

He gave up that touchdown. Its ok. Its game one and he was terrific outside of those last two plays. I will take that from any corner.

PFF had Horn as our fifth worst defender yesterday:

2021’s eighth overall pick didn’t do it for PFF in his debut. Horn allowed two grabs for 18 yards on four tries.

The safety trio didn’t either, with each failing to at least hit the coverage mark of 58.0 on Sunday. Chinn did, however, grade out at a 90.4 in pass rush and 81.3 in tackling.

      I appreciate the honesty in your posts--I am not sure Canales is rusing(?) because I don't think we are good enough yet to draft players for depth on day 1.  I do think we are in limbo, fwiw.  At 19, I think you are drafting second rounders in the first.

      We are in a unique situation here. Just my opinion. Three things: Moton’s playing health has been gradually declining as he is aging, while his contract is a drag on the payroll.  Something will give with him sooner than later but I think 2026 could be it.  So.. need a right tackle by 2027. At the latest.    Icky’s individual situation is unique as well. They would have had an extension done by now if not for the injury. We only have him for this year. With no assurance he will ever be the same player.  It would be reckless just to assume. Now we have Walker for one year. And that is a major relief. Maybe he is the answer, but the team that knows him best let him go and it was cheap for us to sign him. So how much did they value him?    We look to be needing two tackles by 2027.  And have poo for depth this year as well. So anyway we could draft a guy for 2027 RT and groom him this year, and see how Icky does, and act as needed in 2027. Spread out filling the two holes over 2 years.    Then I remember, hey if Bryce doesn’t get a Lot more consistent do they extend him? Hoping not, if he isn’t really good.    So then we are looking at the 2027 draft which people say is gonna be loaded with QBs. If we need a LT and a QB what is the pick gonna get spent on?   Taking into account the recovery success rates cited here on the Icky surgery, you might want to plan for him to not be the same player. rather than assume he will be and get caught with your pants down.  It is a tough situation.    And factor in that it is critically important to protect this QB, always, but especially this year where it is said to be make or break. And how you might feel about that.    All of it points to a real possibility that these things converge in the negative, like Bruce sucks and Icky is not the same. In that case if you want to be assured of getting LT secured, the only place you can do that through the draft could be very well be 2026 1st round.     For me, I would like to err on the side of caution.  Cover for these outcomes. It wouldn’t be fun. Added benefit is if we do have a tackle go down this year we will have a guy there. Because I don’t know what we have now.

      I agree. In a perfect world I wouldn’t want to draft another WR, but in this draft it’s fine based on the value of who will be there at #19.  All of the top tier guys worth pick #19 at other positions of need will be long gone. Only exception is Dillon Thieneman, but he’s almost a shoe in for the Vikings as the Harrison Smith replacement. Some posters on here want to draft an OT just to check a box without realizing the concerns and risk that comes along with said player. Sounds like XL to me… desperately drafting need… KC is a pretty safe player.  Produced all 3 years in college and last year in the SEC vs a lot of top corners in this years draft. He single handily dropped the South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse’s draft stock with how bad he abused him.   Sometimes it’s best to try and hit a double instead of going for the home run. This draft screams “go for the double”. Esp in the first.
