Robby worse contract than Batum?

Hear me out….Batum’s contract was one of the worst in Charlotte sports history.   Is Robby’s worse?   Not on the amount but the effects it will have….Marty/Jerry like hand out.

1) Batums didn’t really hurt us from signing others bc Hornets not ready to contend….one or two of Reddick, Moore, Jackson, Burns probably won’t signed bc the money given to Robby.

2) timing….Batum had a good year and then you resigned him.  Why give Robby this contract before the year was over?  What was the rush….see how Marshall, Shi, and Robby does this year then decide and see what his value is.

3) Batum was impeding the process of younger players his last year here….Borrego put him on the bench and the young guys played.  You think Rhule will bench his Temple guy?    Marshall’s progress will be stunted.

4) Why draft Marshall in 2nd round if you’re going to keep Robby?  There were tons of talent left at that spot.

5) WRs are dime a dozen in every draft.  No reason to pay two WRs and a RB that much. Can’t build a contender paying them that much when you will have to pay your QB and the guys I mentioned above.

6) Age ….he’s not young.

7) Performance….I don’t think he ever was worth the money he got but this year has been really bad.   He won’t be able without touches and could become an expensive disgruntled diva.

I just don’t get this contract extension….someone make me feel better about it and tell me what I’m missing.

This offense uses 3 WR sets frequently... I don't see his contract as hurting any of our young players... Robby wasn't just a 1 year guy either.. he flashed on the Jets.

They do need to get him more involved, though. I think it'll happen with CMC down.  Part of me expects teams will need to start picking their poison with DJ or Robby.

It is nothing wrong with Robbie. Darnold is missing open receivers left and right. And this is with protection. He is still a bit damaged from time in New York and we all see it. He is going to have to open up and make more winning throws, not just game managing throws as the season progresses. As he opens up, the touches and impact for Robbie will come. Plus, DJ is doing good things.  It has been three games and he signed a very manageable contract. The offense is still feeling its way out. Picking out one player after going 3-0 and hating on their contract is odd.

No, Robbie can play. Now that the offense is going through Sam instead of cmc, we need Robbie to run his deep routes and take the top off of defenses opening up the field for the other WRs and TEs.

Sam didn't find him much in Houston, but we will get him the ball. We have many wr options out there that are going to provide mismatch opprtunities for the other guys or for Robbie himself.

We just need to establish the run game again, and even though chubba had a few bad first games, he seemed to warm up and find a groove once he became the feature back.

Everything will be OK, no need to panic yet.

Why does everyone keep saying Robby is the deep threat? He’s not. He’s the check down corner route guy. It’s actually amazing we have had so much offensive production using our two best receivers ass backwards.

    • Names I'd keep an eye on... Coby White,  Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson  and Stephen Castle...  3 teams except Orlando has checked on Melo before and rumblings of sours getting rid of fox too. I'd think they think Melo and Wemby would make them nuclear out west.
    • Well he somehow had 12 preseason carries for not playing. He also has 20 carries in the regular season, not three. He has actually played in about 7% of the offensive snaps for this regular season(33% of the special teams snaps). This isn't stuff you have to make up, these are very easily referenced statistics, man.
    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
