Panthers about to trade for CJ Henderson?!?!

Looks like we got an ideal man-coverage CB.

But what about Henderson's best scheme fit?

Pro Football Focus analyst Mike Renner shared what he believes is the best scheme fit for his top 16 cornerbacks in the upcoming draft, split into man coverage, press-zone, off-zone/slot, and all around. And according to Renner's analysis, Henderson is what you want in a man coverage cornerback.

"There’s one fairly universal trait for man-coverage corners: speed," Renner noted when discussing the ideal man coverage cornerback. "You won’t see many 4.5 40s on this list, as they have to be able to make up ground once they inevitably lose a step in coverage."

Speed is a key component of Henderson's game and he proved that speed at the NFL Combine by posting an 84th percentile 40-yard dash among cornerbacks since 1999. While he didn't always end plays in coverage with an interception, Henderson's speed paired with above-average length made breaking up passes a little easier.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. What the hell is Jacksonville doing, that is an absolute steal for a top 10 pick at CB. I liked Dan Arnold and will miss him but time for our boy Tommy Tremble to step up even more. What a fuging trade baby. Especially once Horn comes back this CB group is INSANE. Unfortunately for fans of Donte this could mean he's gone after this year as we now have Horn and Henderson locked up for cheap.

IN ON EVERY DEAL

I absolutely loved CJ Henderson as a prospect and Matt Rhule and co. have done an outstanding job developing guy since they got here.

Sucks to give up another 2022 pick but Henderson is without a doubt, easily better than any 3rd rounder we could have drafted and he's still on his rookie contract.  We could potentially have an elite CB duo a year from now if Henderson lives up to his potential.

This all but guarantees Jackson isn't being re-signed though, right?

They loved Henderson last year just an FYI

They know him and liked him. This wasn’t a desperation type move. This was someone they wanted last year. Now to get him for Arnold and a 5th… that’s a steal

I'm confused by the lack of love for this trade so far. This is a straight up robbery. We traded a marginal journeyman out of a crowded skill position group and a third rounder for a top-ten talent who's only on the trade block because he doesn't get along with the most obviously unqualified NFL coach in recent memory. And we got a pick back! It's a massive win, this thread should just be gif reactions and pie

The real underrated part of this trade is that we get him this year and 3 more as part of his rookie contract. He's a legit number 1 lockout corner. Its a position we are deep in whenever Horn returns, but at that price you can't say no. If he performs extremely well this season, then we don't have to overpay Jackson amd can use that money on SS or o-line. Either way for a 3rd round pick and Arnold this is a steal.

“There was word this summer about the Saints showing interest in a deal for Henderson, but nothing came of those discussions. Things went further with the Panthers and Henderson is now set to move to the NFC South for the rest of his second NFL season.“

We got Horn when the Saints were trying to trade up for him, and got CJ who they were attempting to trade for this offseason as well. Word was that the Jags wouldn’t take less than a 2nd round pick at the time

We get a 5th round pick also 😁

    • Facts it's still crazy that they made him sell over that especially considering what some of the other owners have done.  JR was a rich 80 year old white man from the south I'm not at all surprised about him making some "inappropriate" comments about what a woman is wearing water is wet what a surprise. That's just the way things were done during his time, and he should and did get punished for his actions by paying some hefty fines, but it definitely wasn't something that he should've been forced to sell his team over.  I'll never forget him insulting Peyton Manning during a negotiation, reportedly belittling the quarterback’s knowledge of player safety and asking, “Do I need to help you read a revenue chart, son?
    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
