Breaking from Sheena Quick: We passed on Justin Fields and began the trade for Darnold post Ohio St pro day

Fields may of shown something that made the coaches discouraged but he would be a rookie with no former damage that could be brought up and molded into a franchise QB and they could coach whatever they saw out of him potentially.

But 3 years of tape made them think, yeah this Darnold guy looks like the real deal. Even though he is damaged goods, smh.

With a solid O-line Sam can be a decent starter but he will never be Elite.

Could Fields have some issues? Sure.  Even Trevor did coming out.

Would be curious to know what the concerns were…..and then hear them kicking around all Sam’s issues.

I think Sam looks pretty much like NY Sam. No real change IMO.  The outcome is just better given our team is so much better around him.    And Sam had good stretches even in NY.  I think the retelling of Sam’s time in NY is often of a fictional player that never played well.  He did.  Then he would have games like today.  It’s what he does.

Passing on Fields due to our evaluation of him? Okay. Fine.

I'd just like to have been a fly on the wall watching us evaluate all the film of Sam Darnold hitting defenders between the numbers in NY. Because the last two weeks we've seen that Sam Darnold suiting up for the Panthers.

If Darnold doesn’t pan out and Fields keeps developing, we need someone else evaluating QBs. Teddy was already a mistake…
