Yea because the defense in those Darnold shitfest games actual played good enough to be ranked 2nd in the NFL coming into this game.

The defense today was bad so your comparison doesn't even make sense.

Maybe the defense isn’t as good as we think. After today, I have a feeling other teams are going to exploit it just the same.

I’ll urge you to question how many top starting offenses have the defense faced this year?

I’ll save you the trouble, the answer is 1.

2 if you include the Cardinals without their starting QB and #1 playmaker.

Tom Brady lost worse to Washington a week ago, are they not contenders?

To this point, a exception to the rule was a bad game. A blip. That’s what it was for them.

This loss was the rule for the Panthers.

It’s not just them. Plenty of good teams lose to bad teams in todays NFL.

True.

But what about urgency? The Panthers had to win this. Everyone knew this.

Just how much better does cam have to play for us to win? Because honestly it won’t get much better than this. And it certainly won’t get easier except playing the Dolphins.

Oh stop everyone and their mama was in here praising the defense as being ready for a playoff push last Sunday night.

Not true. There have been a few posters that haven't jumped in saying the defense was playoff caliber or the team as a whole for that matter. The majority of fans have said the defense was super bowl worthy or whatever though.

Someone pointed out in the game thread that anytime the Panthers have faced decent to good teams and/or QBs, the defense has been exposed. That's largely true.

Hold up. You think this is the first time the defense hasn’t performed well? We’ve invested heavily there and it still falls apart.

Edit: And what the hell is the “aren’t hiding their true intentions?” People can’t have the opinion that the coaching isn’t sufficient or that the roster still has critical holes to fill?

    • Aggressive runner, hits the hole fast, and runs angry.  Just a few yards shy of the single game record for the team.  Absolutely phenomenal performance.  If the gameplan hadn't become weirdly pass heavy for the 3rd and first half of the 4th quarters he might have been flirting with 300.
    • I felt that way before the season started, but I'm sorry, he's already proven he isn't that guy, I don't need to learn anything more about him. He threw the ball 30 times today and could only throw for 198 yards, which was his 2nd best yardage game this year, he's just not the guy. Which means this season has already moved onto the 2nd most important thing going into this season after evaluating Bryce, and that's developing our best young players. You don't do that by only throwing 8 of your 30 passes to your best player who is still only a rookie.  Pepper him with targets and help develop him so he's ready to take a huge leap next year when we get a real HC and QB to get him the ball.
    • Every win comes from a non-sustainable source.  As CRA mentioned, Penix absolutely imploding against ATL, and then today, defense finally clicked and looked the best they’ve looked in a long time (and still have up 24 points lol) and Rico ran for 200+ yards.  We’re not going to get that every week, especially against good teams, which neither Miami or ATL are.  Both MIA and ATL are bad teams and Bryce still couldn’t get it together.  The defense (and team) had to overcome 14 points because of his turnovers again.  That was not even an average QB performance.  We are winning in spite of him.
