this place is so much more hostile about ruhle than it was for rivera in 2013

That team started out 1-3 and there was fuging blood in the water. 

The Panthers had just poo the fuging bed in Arizona coming out of a bye. They beat the hell out of the Cardinals but lost due to a hideous offensive gameplan. 

This was after starting 1-6 the season before, including one of the most gut wrenching regular season losses in team history that involved a 4th and short and a certain undersized safety. 

There were constant threads about firing rivera. 

In retrospect I don't think anyone can say that Rivera didn't come into a better situation. I mean yes he drafted Cam but that was a no brainer, and also a consolation pick. The team was also better when he inherited it, especially what ruhle inherited. 

 

And yet thinks are far more hostile now than they were then. 

So why is that? Obviously this was a decade ago, the internet as a whole had not yet grown as caustic. 

Why is Ruhle different?

Rhule is being so obviously outcoached and has made such putried roster decisions (Trading picks for Sam, extending Robby, Sam's 5th year option, etc) that it feels like a waste if he gets another year. It's not beyond saying that Phil Snow has helped Matt Rhule look a lot better than he is, and he still looks bad.

It’s worse because this team should be better than where Rivera was at the time. The overall weapons, secondary and pass rush should be on par or better. 

The strong start and collapse is also worse and not indicative of progress. 
 

Rivera basically just relied on Cam to save him once he realized he had an automatic short yardage machine and the GOAT MLB being his on field DC for him.

I'm not sure it's as much about football or the situation as it is with people generally being more angry online and wanting a pat on the back for supporting the mob.

Biggest difference: Rivera started out weak and typically finished strong and vying for the playofffs.  Rhule beats a few doormat teams out of the gate and then packs it in for the year while watching other teams leapfrog us into the wildcard race as we look like a fish flopping out of water.

In Ron's first two years we had a OROY and a DROY….we got anything like that with Rhule?

Rivera was always his own worst enemy. He went Riverboat to change it up. As fans, that's a realistic hope. It almost worked one year.

There just isn't much positive that Rhule brings to the table. Lack of skill and knowledge make it years to see if he could learn enough to be competitive. His hype is deflating and even  Snow can't prop him up on this level.

It was only their second with a winning record, their sixth without a playoff trip and the sixth in which someone else paced them in win shares (Kon Knueppel this time around). You may not always know if Irving is playing, but you know what you'll get if he does: elite shotmaking, all-time handles, offensive ingenuity and the ability to work both on and off the ball. He could show this young roster what's required to win for a year or two (he has a $42.4 million player option for 2027-28) or even stick around longer if the partnership proves especially fruitful.   The Hornets also add a building block in Burries, who offers both plug-and-play polish and flashes of shot-creation that hint at star potential. In short, they could better their chances of winning both now and in the future while collecting both the best player in the trade and the highest draft pic

      I'd hire him in a heartbeat. Hell if he wanted the job, I'd have Canales packing his poo right now and I don't dislike Canales. It's just that firing a 106-58 coach is crazy work. That's a 65% winning percentage. That's the equivalent of averaging 11 wins a season. That's incomprehensible for a fanbase That's never experienced back to back winning seaons.
