What is Tepper seeing that nobody else here sees?

Current estimate of Tepper's wealth:  15-16 billion.

Yeah 50 million to Tepper is the equivalent of someone with 100k in the bank spending $312.50, literally.

People don't seem to grasp this.

Just now, Stuart Smith said:

Any would be candidates for the Panthers head coaching job are following the situation in Carolina. Tepper committed to a rebuild. If Tepper fires Rhule before it is perceived he (Rhule) had a fair opportunity any quality candidates might be hesitant to show interest. These last games are important not just for the score, but the effort of the players.  That may be the difference in Rhule’s future.

the Panthers

There are only so many opportunities to become a head coach of an NFL team.  These candidates believe in their own abilities.  They aren't turning down a chance at the brass ring because Carolina decided to fire a head coach who was only winning five or six games a season after two years.

Candidates aren't blind to the mess Carolina has been under Matt Rhule.  Chances are many of these guys have coached against the Panthers and Rhule's college "game plan".  They may also be astounded Rhule has lasted as long as he has in Carolina.

I've said it in other threads, I'll say it again here.  Rhule in Carolina has one major issue:  trajectory.

Right now, the trajectory of the franchise is down.  Look on the field.  It doesn't take an NFL expert or analyst.  Does this team look better than it did last year?

We heard a lot about culture.  The roster has turned over nearly 80% since Rhule arrived.  His "culture" is in place.  This is it.  What do we see?  Coaches being fired.  Players calling each other out.  Players shifting blame.  Coaches calling out players directly in public.  Is that a successful culture?

For Rhule himself, you have to compare him to history.  Rhule is going to start his tenure with two losing seasons.  Do you know how many coaches in NFL history have done that and gone on to 8+ year careers and a Super Bowl appearance?  Five.  Ever.  Since 1980?  One.

Are these the signs of a team that is turning the corner?  Is Rhule going to beat incredible odds to turn the team around?  No.

These are the reasons Rhule needs to go, now.

I’m going on the assumption that Dave has no plans of firing Matt this year. His comments about it could take five years makes me think this.

So as he has watched us go from 3-0 to 5-8, has watched Sam Darnold be everything he was in NY, has watched an o-line more resemble a pee-wee team than professionals and has watched a defense with some players seeming to quit…

What is he seeing that nobody else here sees? What is it that would make him think another year would be any different?

Tepper and Rhule have one thing in common.    They both think they are the smartest people in the room

Just watch even average teams in the nfl
in comparison, Rhule’s team  is unwatchable

It's an interesting topic because Rhule"+'s staff is pretty much all his guys he's been with.

It's a not a more traditional setup where you have retreads and guys ambitious to be nfl head coaches again at the coordinator positions.

So he probably just holds on to him and evaluate at the end of the season.

Then he'll have to decide if he's going to cut bait or bring in a big name at OC as a reminder of how hot the seat is.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
