Reddick or Burns, who you keeping? Why?

I listened to Kyle Bailey talk after he had Fitterer on the show yesterday. Fitterer said they have to set the edges better next year to stop the run, and they need bigger guys. So he said he thinks one will be gone, it sounded from Kyle and the other guy talking they would keep Reddick. They was saying how Burns always gets to far up the field and whiffs on a lot of tackles. I agree I would resign Reddick and see what I could get for Burns. I don’t see how he made pro bowl over Reddick honestly. What do y’all think?

We have no identity on defense.

We have a mix of 34 and 43 guys and sometimes look great, other times look horrible.

We probably need to decide who we are on defense before signing guys to long term deals because 50% of the time, they look good

If we run a 34, then Burns and Reddick will be great as OLB's, if not.....

If forced to pick? Keep Burns

Reddick will IMO require a big and lengthy contract.  So it will tie him to our next HC pending Rhule is gone after next year.   And he isn’t a universal fits everything defensive player.   And I don’t want to see what Matt Rhule would pay Reddick given what we saw with Robby.

if we had fired Rhule and I knew our next coach? The answer might be different.

Reddick is a Temple guy so Rhule probably makes him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.

Realistically, I try to keep both and run a legit straight up 3-4 D. Burns and Reddick both fit better as 3-4 OLBs. As starting DEs you're just too light to stop the run consistently. I think we're closer to fielding a 3-4 front than we are a 4-3.

As great a pass rusher as Burns is, he's been here three years now.  He's still making the same mistakes.  Over-running the quarterback.  Missing tackles in the backfield.  I'm afraid all he's ever going to be is a pass rush specialist.

While those guys are valuable, they are a luxury.

    • I mean, you see the games on the first page right? 167, 235, 171, 121, 103 etc etc. Am I a tad small? I guess if we are needing perfection, but hey this is a BY thread....... Id say in the majority he does have around 100 yards for 55 minutes, does that help? Just like the numbers they reflect hes playd very poor in nearly 85% of those game leading into the final minutes. I will also give this, he could had more GWDs if not for the defense choking.  I feel this is sooooo very clear to people that watch the games. Even the pure only 100% BY fans or his relatives should be able to see this as well.

    • you always push in to the weird position of defending people I dont really like, but you don’t know any employee is a bad fit until it plays out. A lot of folks here were excited when Rhule was hired. He’s clearly good at selling himself, he keeps landing head‑coaching jobs. We also don’t know that Tepper was the driving force behind picking Bryce. The general feeling at the time is that he was the best player, The Teppers part is mostly rumor we’ve treated like fact. And it was 3–4 years ago. Most of us have changed our minds on Bryce like ten times since. Lastly I don’t think he’s calling the shots anymore. He seems looped in, not leading. I worked for the Panthers for about eight months, and I almost never saw him in the office. Dan Morgan and Brandt were there every day. That’s anecdotal, not proof but it suggests Dan is doing most of the work. if you asked me today if the Panthers are going to pay Bryce, I dont see it. He has not played well enough to heavily invest in him.
