Tommy Tremble?

I never understood why we used Ricci instead of Tremble as a FB. I mean Ricci caused a fumble because of his incompetence in the red zone I think in week one or two.

Tremble supposed to be a great blocker and can play FB, so why didn’t we use him as our FB and back up TE? At the the beginning of the season Tremble would have been the 3rd TE. So why not use him as our FB and free up another roster spot?

I don’t think Ricci was good at FB so if anything this just shows me that our coaching staff doesn’t know what they are doing.

Here's what I don't get:

We employed, rostered and had active an actual fullback for the entire season.  He played 162 snaps.  Got offensive snaps in every single game.  He had zero catches on zero targets and zero rushing attempts.  He was STRICTLY a blocker when playing on offense.

WHAT IS THE POINT?!?!

Tommy Tremble came out of college as a rookie and his calling card, his "NFL Ready" attribute was his ability to just (*&@ing destroy people as a blocker.  Tremble caught the ball reasonably well.  He was used in the run game.  We'll never mistake him for the all around threat that CMC is, but he was reasonably flexible and achieved quite a bit for a third round rookie.

So why on earth did we spend a roster spot on a fullback?  Tremble could have taken those snaps, and been an actual threat.  Forced the defenses to question what was happening.

I have nothing against Ricci, really, I don't.  Seems like a good kid.  But putting him in the game was an absolute telegraph to the opposing defense.  He's going to be a blocker.  He's never deployed in any other way!  Follow him to the ball!

Just another naive move by our coaching staff.

Are far as his pass catching abilities, who knows.  Our total passing attempts were middle of the league statistically, even though we were behind in most games for most of the second half of the season.  Which means we didn't pass a lot until we had to, and when we had to, it was against a defense that was ready for it.  And we mostly targeted the receivers (and CMC for the few games he played).  Throw in bad oline play, and a qb that threw it to the other team a lot, and we aren't going to see much from the tight end.

2 of his first 3 plays were TDs, the other was like a 40 yard grab.  So they went ahead and stopped using him.  Checks out.

I really like what he brings but his utilization after we were eliminated made zero sense.  Just like Marshall, Shi, Brady C, & Deonte.  Very strange how little faith this staff had in their own handpicked rookie class.

One of the disgusting things about this regime is we've either whiffed on nearly an entire draft classes or they're not being used.

Can't really judge a thing on offense if line is constantly blown up. Why it's dumb to say Cam's done.

Due to cams shoulder it looks like if he can't get set and throw he can't make the consistent throws he needs to.  Almost looks awkward.  I agree if the line was just average he would do much better but man I think that arm is toast for consistent nfl play.

I was kind of hyped when we drafted Tremble. I saw him as a versatile weapon and thought he'd play in the backfield, inline and flexed out. I think we under utilized him especially coming out of the backfield. For some reason Giovanni Rici was turned into our FB and I can't remember him being too effective in that role.

With Thomas leaving in Free Agency that will leave Tremble as our undisputed #1 option at TE, pending whoever comes in as a FA or via the draft for the 2022 season.

What do you guy guys think about that? Do you guys think Tremble will work out? Or will he be a bust?

Tell me how you feel.

Considering that I had an absolute blast going back and watching him exclusively for this write up, I'd say I'm pretty damn excited 😄

He was a good pick but Brady really didn't use TEs other than blocking and gadgets.

Brady's offense, from what it looked like to me in our limited exposure to it, seemed to rely on using TEs more as mobile decoys that were designed to pull defenses away from the target (pre- or post-snap) while also setting them up to block downfield for the players catching it underneath.

In the redzone, it appeared that he wanted to get the TEs more involved. Those same plays where they'd send a TE on a route to eventually block for somebody else they allowed them to target the soft spots in the defense instead.

The team drafted this rookie class and then made them essentially red shirt, except maybe BC, who they played some because of injuries in front of him

Build through the draft they said - but then don’t play the guys they draft. Makes perfect sense.

With the understanding that pre-season doesn't mean much it is hard to believe that all these rookies played well in preseason yet did get many opportunities during the regular season.  Especially since those in front of them were not much better (outside the receiving corps)

I still believe that this rookie class will be one of our better drafts providing Rhule starts to use them.  It doesn't do much good to draft all these players without giving them much of an opportunity to play.
