Can we talk about Fitterer and the off-season so far

Rhule had full control last season.

Lots of people with connections are questioning whether he still does

To be fair, lots of people with(and without) connections are questioning why Rhule is still employed by the Panthers at all.

Rhule said from the jump that he didn’t want roster control. Having final say is a different matter  i.e. veto power in refusing players that don’t fit his scheme and /or culture. Any head coach worth their salt would want that luxury, few get it.

Some of the bad moves from last year seemed to have Rhule’s fingerprints on them, but we’ll never know.

I hate that you crybabies make me defend the dude, but damn.

Ellis actually got a little info from Jon Alexander on what's different.

The official organizational structure hasn't changed, but Rhule is choosing to (or perhaps having to) listen to the other voices in the room more so than last year.

So while last season it was "What I say goes", this year it's more "Here's what I think, so what do you guys think?

If it's true or not, what I hope has happened is that Tepper pulled Fitt and Morgan aside and instructed them to bolster the o-line through draft and FA and allow Rhule to hitch himself to the success of Darnold behind a completely reworked line for pass protection.  No more excuses.  This QB mess will be hopefully resolved in 2023.

Sure, he said that, but if he had it written into his contract and was a deal-breaker elsewhere then you think he didn't exercise that power? None of us outside that inner circle can know for sure but there sure seems to be an actual NFL-level personnel strategy being executed instead of throwing money Day 1 at 'versatile' guys like Erving and Elflein. Fitterer's tone at the end of the season and so far in the off-season seems to hint at differences as well, e.g. his barb about arm length in contradiction to Rhule's point about it.

So a few games in if things aren't going well in game, he's gonna be like "What do you guys think I should do differently?". At what point is he just a sideline cheerleader/water boy without delivering the water? Even if we start winning some games I can't listen to any more Matt Rhule post game pressers or my head may explode.

That I believe. I hire people smarter than me and aren’t  afraid to disagree with me. Everyone has a 90 day probation period and if they do nothing but be a yes man(person), I really have no use for them. Of course if they know you won’t consider what they say with any value, you get the situation you described last year.

Really hoping he trades down from 6 like last year and gets the freedom to add talent to this roster. I'm pretty happy with his draft picks overall and the free agent signings. The defensive ones were solid last year, too, and the idea of making sure you're good at corner is sound so i dig being aggressive at that position. It also looks like someone, probably him, realized the O Line guys we went after last year aren't good enough and made it a point to correct that, at least on paper. I'm still willing to wait on the QB for next year bc he seems super competent and has a plan for how the team needs to look.
