NFL Network insider: Alcohol issues, 'unreliable behavior' caused Matt Corral's NFL Draft slide

This isn’t a manziel situation I’ll just say that. Never heard any issues that weren’t self reported. He literally didn’t have to say he had issues with alcohol  or depression and no one would be talking about it. Meanwhile Mac Jones had like 2 dui’s and was drunk as fug on draft night slurring his words in a club but nobody said poo about that on here minus a handful of people. Everyone downplayed that.

I really, really believe character matters, especially when in a leadership role. Character, though, iss something developed over a lifetime, particularly one with trials and tribulations.

That growth in his game by senior year points to a lot of growth. Hopefully he's still growing and can make the most of it here. He's our guy now and so he deserves our full support.

And a lot of the reporting has been his teammates would run through a brick wall with him   That’s what we lack.   Real leadership and energy.

Yep.  Mac Jones was arguably more of a nightmare behind the scenes but he's that pepp'd up southern boy so he was never really ridden hard for it.  I remember a story about the sheriff or whatever basically telling him that they had his back or whatever.

I think it's a non-issue. If he can get a bit thicker & the schemes and playbook under control, I've got a ton of hope for him.

Hell, my sophomore year in school, my last quarter I got a BID: A grade B in some journalism class, an I (incomplete) in another class I needed for my degree (so I had to retake it) and a D in econ. Why did I do so bad? Drinking and partying. What made me change? One time, you see, my friends carried me on their shoulders into the dorm like I was some king and other friends, including a couple girls put me in a tub and cleaned me up. The next day, my roommate told me that I had a problem. I told him that I only drank on Friday and Saturday. He told me that didn't matter. I reflected upon my actions, talked to a few others, and I concluded that I indeed had to change (which I did). Don't get me wrong, I still have a few occasionally to this day, but I never got anywhere near that drunk again, and it's been 35 years now. Hell, I drove drunk, ran from the police in a car, outsmarted them by parking in a parking lot, scaled a fence with barbed wire and hid in kudzu until they left. I chugged a six pack in 30 minutes, got into my friends convertible and went to the Shrimp Boat drunker than poo. This stuff is perhaps benign, but it could have had some lifelong consequences. I was just lucky, but I made it up in my mind to be more responsible and leave all the immaturity and stupidity behind, and now I'm a fine man if I do say so myself. Someone who knows me for the man I am today wouldn't guess that I used to abuse drink in college. Corral will be fine.

I know it gets talked about a lot but his quick release is the most excited I am about his game. And the ball explodes out of his hand. Corral has a ton of work to do coming from an RPO based system and who knows if he will translate but the good ones have that. Rodgers comes to mind. Gonna be interesting to see him play in preseason.

he's been very open about it and he apparently even started a student group at ole miss to help other students whove dealt with similar issues

otoh, there's a reason it's called "recovery" and not "recovered." he will need a very stable situation, if he is indeed an alcoholic

otoh he might just have partied too hard, like every college athlete did before social media, and scouts are just blowing it out of proportion because he doesn't come from the "right family" (white kid with a father who has nfl connections) and scouts love to poo on people that aren't in the system.

"oh god he punched wayne gretsky's son"

fuging good the kid probably deserved it.

He can flick it that's for sure and with placement.  And seems to have deep field vision.  What I've seen and liked are also his mid-range seam throws ~15-25 yarders.  Consistently hitting guys in stride and avoided the dreaded "hospital balls".  He's got some promise.

    • I went to Canes games back in '04 & '05 when you were probably still a swimmer waiting to make your dad a father. There was no one there bc they sucked. Some of the lowest attendance in the NHL. As a Panthers fan coming off a SB season (03-04), I couldn't even believe they put a hockey team in Raleigh, and given the attendance, a lot of people speculated they would be relocated somewhere back up north where they would be supported and not "Mayberry." Seriously, educate youself.  That is reality. That being said, comparing that environment to 2024 Canes would be disingenuous. I was at PNC last year and know how great the current environment is. Comparing the current environment at BOA to 10 years ago is just as disingenuous.  Just bc you didn't witness how good BOA is when the Panthers are actually decent doesn't change reality. Seriously, surely you see that coming from such an elitist environment like the globally renowned world-class city of Raleigh, NC... I guarantee you if you went to a Canes game and a Panthers game in 2005, the difference would be unreal bc the Panthers were awesome and the Canes were (at the time) a moribund franchise. I have been in BOA when the whole stadium was rocking. You simply are young, don't know what you're talking about, but want to portray yourself as having knowledge about things you simply don't. You have a lot in common with modern day politicians and televangelists Like I said, Idiocracy has prevailed... Have a great day too!
    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
