Carlos Dunlap Visiting Panthers

Oh boy, here we go throwing money away again.  Dunlap will not put this team defense on his back and turn it into an elite unit.  At this point the 2022 Panthers are what they are. Adding older, more expensive pieces here or there is just eating up more rollover cap money for next year.  Rhule will never learn.

This would make sense on a bunch of levels!! Rather he started or came off the bench, he would help Burns and Gross in the defensive end room. The other pass rushers are more only linebackers only  but his wisdom would be welcomed.

Productive veteran player that you can get for a year for cheap.  He’s not expected to come in and play every down, but moreso to provide depth.  How anyone could see this is a negative is beyond me

Great defenses always add veteran pieces who can still perform at a high level.  This team especially needs vets for the locker room.  Dunlap would be a great addition and fill a huge need for us.  Plus - he can drop into coverage and play the run.  Dude had 7 sacks in his final 5 games last season once his playing time increased.

Let's see the contract numbers and then I'll tell you if it's a positive or negative.  Again, this roster is 99% built.  So unless we find an elite level QB somewhere, adding a piece here or there isn't going to move the needle much at all and just digging us in a deeper cap hole for next year.

It's not about putting the defense on his back. We literally lack pass rushers. TBH, Dunlap would probably be our best all-around DE if he signed with us.

I don't want to see a long term or high priced deal but he would immediately make our defense better.

    • While I'd love to add him, it just doesn't make sense for where we are at in our re-build right now. The only teams who should be interested are those who have a very legitimate shot at winning the SB this season, as any team who makes the trade is going to be mortgaging their future to make the move. Teams who make these kinds of trades and then give them the massive contract, in the hopes that it will expedite their path to contention, ALWAYS ends up backfiring because they have to give up the 1st round picks that are then needed to help build out the rest of the roster after eating up such a significant chunk of the cap on the new contract. There is no way the Cowboys trade him for anything less than 2 future 1st rounders (and probably more), plus we'll have to make him the highest paid non QB in league history.  Not to mention that it would then have made the Scourton and/or Princely picks a bit of a waste, as those 2nd and 3rd round picks would have been better off used on a ILB or DB
    • Like his approach to pre season that's ro get them out there and play together for a few plays and right about the night before and morning before.  Maybe we can come out the gate on fire I can smell the smoke from here!!   Go Panthers
    • Only 26 years old, fills the biggest hole on our roster. Top 3 at his respective position, yeah fug it how often does a future HOF player become available in their prime?
