Funny enough Ron Rivera was somewhere in that same ball park of 3-14 at the start of his coaching career.

And funny enough that outside of some outlier years and him being carried by generational talent, he's still an average football coach. Better than Rhule if we compare their first two years, sure, but his conservatism and lack of strategic vision always hampered the team, and he and the coaches are the major reason the team lost a very winnable Super Bowl.

If Rivera is your metric, then your bar is too low, and Rhule doesn't even reach that.

To be a great player you need to be top 5 in the NFL at your position. They are good to very good players, but im not sure about great.

Says who?  Top 5 is just some arbitrary number you made up.  I would say top 10 or even 15 at your position would be considered great.  Top 5 would be elite, best of the best.

I said even if all of them are considered great we are still a ways off from drawing in a top QB who wants to compete for a super bowl like the OP suggested.

Moton and Chinn if used properly are top 10 easily, Burns and Moore are more like top 15-20 guys..

DJ Moore is a great player.  Brian Burns is a great player, Taylor Moton is great, Jeremy Chinn is great.

True.

But RR had some of the greatest panthers of all time:

Cam, Smitty, Gross, Keuchly, Ryan Kalil, Deangalo, Stewart, Olsen

RR had better talent across the board, hands down.

Rivera sucks. Rhule’s biggest fault so far has been QB evaluation. Does Baker solve that? Maybe. If not Rhule is gone.

I’m an optimist when it comes to sports, and the Panthers, with the talent they have, are in as good a spot they’ve been since Cam was healthy.

Rivera at least knew how to build a defense. What does Matt Rhule know how to do?

Okay, say we make the wild card and lose in the first round.... We have no QB on the roster the next year except Corral who hasn't been able to learn the playbook so far, would likely overpay Mayfield and extend Rhule with absolutely no ceiling higher than losing a wildcard year after year......

Do remember that in 2015 we supposedly had the weakest receiver corps in the league. He didn't always have great talent and Cam was very inconsistent and often injured from 2016 on, especially 2018 on.

Rhule already has a 7 year contract and this is year 3. And we can afford to pay Mayfield if he performs by just tagging him for 30 and not have to commit to a long term deal since Corral is on a rookie deal.

You're right.  He started with the talent I listed, except Luke and Olsen.  The drafting the next few years was not great.  We drafted Benjamin and Funchess and our first rounder in 2016 was Vernon Butler. How much did Butler even play?  RR wasn't great with the draft, game management, game adjustment, or clock management.

    • Great point.    I would lke to add that there is another QB on the roster who was terrible over the middle--Kenny Pickett.
    • I don't think this is the year for Carolina, unfortunately.  I think they will have to make a decision on the QB position-all we know is that Bryce has year 5, but a long term deal has not been signed--yet--and they would be smart to take a "wait and see" approach.  I have not kept up, and I see a path to upside for Bryce, but I do not think we have aggressively pursued a QB when our QB was mediocre to worse than mediocre.  yes, his numbers are improving--but he has adapted by eliminating what he does poorly and not improving on what he does poorly.  Just my take and I have no data to support this view.   Basically, we go as Bryce goes, so the approach is not to bring in a QB to have him compete until we find one, but it is to make Bryce as good as he can be--is that good enough? Season ticket holders buy the hope of winning rings, not winning 8 games. Last year, Bryce had a resurgence.  Take away TMac and Rico Dowdle.  How good was he?  I still have hope.  Not a hater of plan A, but a hater because we have no plan B.
    • Yeah man, I've been here for a very very long time. Couldn't even begin to tell you what year. Maybe 2004 or 5? I've never really been super active, just enjoy reading everyone's opinions and discussions. I'll chime in from time to time. I have had a few different accounts over the years. It's always been a fun place for me to check in on my favorite team. Hopefully we can keep the place running for a long while still. I also would like to recommend bringing back the Lovely Ladies page!
