He had no WR's, no TE, and No line.  He has been given nearly zero reps in practice.  Not fair to him--but I was hoping for better.

I wonder if any of the 3rd-4th guys got any reps …. After the score after halftime, our whole team acted like they didn’t know the plays on offense and defense

Not the start he wanted, completely lacked composure today.  He should have been allowed to play behind a better offensive line.  He was rattled early and never recovered.

You know what you have with PJ yet they insist on giving him bulk of the quality reps.

His first NFL game experience.  I'm not worried.

Draft reports

"Matt Corral will need time to learn the NFL and an NFL Offense"

*Makes Matt Corral learn and take his time*

He's treating Corral more like a college freshman than a rookie NFL player, while at the same time seeming to act as if he's got all the time me in the world to develop him.

My biggest beef is still that reps which have been devoted to an unnecessary "competition" and to a quarterback we're not going to keep could have been used to help Corral adjust and learn.

Did anyone else find it interesting that in Corrals post game interview that he mentioned specifically that he thought about “what Bake would do” when he was in the game….interesting that he specifically said Baker and not Darnold…

Darnold is a proven abject failure in the NFL. It seems like the only person who hasn't accepted this reality is Matt Rhule.

I think reps will change significantly over the next week. Bad first game, but it isn't the end of the world, there have been plenty of guys that had rough debuts that ended up being pretty good. Regardless, I think the Bake show will give him plenty of time to get there.

Surprised Meme GIF

That was the case for all the QBs though.  Not unique to Corral.  The other 3rd rounders are 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart and getting experience that allows growth.

Corral is 4th.  The other teams aren’t carrying 4 QBs because you can’t give 4 work.

the problem is we have Sam and PJ on the roster.   Sure seems like Rhule values giving PJ a tryout for other teams over letting Corral having the reps he should be getting in camp.

Generally speaking, a fourth quarterback is a camp body that you only have in camp to spread the load around so that the first few you're actually concentrating on don't get tired.

    • Things like this happen everyday. We live in a social media driven society where loyalty is a foreign concept.
    • If you draft a guy who is healthy and has no concerns about that whatsoever and he goes out and tears his ACL in his first few games in the regular season on a physical play that's a freak accident. But when you trade up to draft an RB who is already rehabbing from a recent ACL tear and he spends the next several months continuing his rehab only to tear the same ACL again after less than a handful of regular season carries in a non contact circumstance that is no freak accident. That is a textbook example of why you do not do what we did. Particularly for what is now a plug and play position. And when you have the highest paid OL in the league over the next two years. None of that makes any logical sense. Legitimately it is and was some Scott Fitterer type foolishness. Now as for XL. The guy has not been committed to his craft. I think anyone with eyes on the situation can and would recognize that. However the warning signs were there. One season of legit production raw prospect that we knew would take time to develop etc. But Morgan and Bryce Young's own father were very high on him. I think in some capacity the reality of our limitation at QB is entering into the equation. Even TMac got a lot of flak over the course of his rookie season for not being able to haul in all of Bryce's passes. At the end of the day our fourth year QB also needs to do his part to maximize the talent we have available. As far as this year. Again. WR round 1 boils down to where are we going to get the touches for the rookie? That would require eating into not only our 8th overall picks touches but also our #2 WR whom oh yeah by the way was UNDRAFTED. I am happy to discuss WR prospects here. I was thrilled we invested what we did last year in TMac because it needed to be done and it made sense from all angles. But nowhere is it written in stone that you cannot draft a good or great WR outside of the first round. Except in the Panthers building apparently. That is not a good reflection on our scouts and front office let me tell ya. Because there's no way on this earth we are going to get back to relevancy and legitimate contender status if we can't pick some gems in the later rounds. Simple and plain.
