Well the way this team looked without Brady I can't say he was the problem. We look about the same. So it's the conundrum blame the chef for not making a 5 star meal with gas station ingredients?

Brady wasn't ready to be an OC. He's on a much better path now.

Rhule isn't qualified to be an NFL head coach either.

I'd be good with taking the shot on Byron because even if he doesn't work out as a HC, I think he'd put us on the right track for a franchise QB.

It's impossible to figure out if he's really ready for a HC job or if he'll be successful as he obviously has benefited by having Brady and working under Arians.  I think those things though will make him successful in identifying and developing a new QB.

So even if he doesn't work out as a HC, whether it's strategy, defensive approach, play calling, etc, I think he'd do enough positive work with the QB situation that if he had to fire him after a couple of years for other reasons, the franchise would still be in a better place.

And that's all if he's unsuccessful, there is a very solid chance that he's going to end up as a really good HC as well, so all in all, to me it's more than worth the chance on him.

Although if I'm being honest, I'd rather us steal an up and coming OC from someone like McVay.  I don't even know who their OC is right now, but his coaching tree is already looking really impressive and that's the style of coach I want us to have with how the NFL is playing these days, you need an innovative offensive mind.

I'm curious why you would say this seeing as his track record is go with Arians "coach the GOAT".

He's a former QB who has long been considered a good QB coach and even in his first year in Tampa, Jameis had his best year of his career (sure, a ton of INTs, but that's Jameis' decision making, he still had career numbers besides that).

My question with him is whether he has the rest of the HC skills needed as he's still very young in his coaching career, even these super young guys who are getting HC jobs now have much more coaching experience as they usually start coaching at 22ish where as Byron didn't start until his mid to late 30s.

Now that is grasping for straws.. When you throw it 40 times per game (6.5 more than NFL average even THIS season) you should put up yardage and TD numbers.... A ton? He threw the most Ints in a season in 34 years.....

 

He has one season calling plays with the GOAT playing QB.... He could turn into a decent HC but throwing a guy I'm there with little experience after the Rhulesaster is the last thing I want to see.

I like Brian Flores to be honest.  I think he is a great coach and love his no nonsense demeanor.  

This is kind of my fear with Tepper...

What he should do is allow for a thorough head coaching search run by professionals.

What I'm afraid he will do is hire the first hot name from the media that he cen bring aboard.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.

      He wasn't a JAG, he's been a starter every year of his career. Didn't turn into the superstar it seemed like he might his rookie year, but I think part of that has been being misused. Guy was/is a baller.
