Yeah, “earning it” is an odd way to say, playing favorites.

The whole "earning it" was most likely in response to criticism last year that they handed Darnold the job (not to mention exercising his fifth year) with no questions asked.  So, like most people that have no idea what they are doing and catch some flack, they do the polar opposite in response (the other option is to double down).

The difference between Darnold and Mayfield was the former has shown no ability to win on an NFL field.  Mayfield at least has shown flashes and accomplished some things.

Those saying it somehow earned Mayfield credibility in the locker room by having to "earn it" miss one thing about professional athletes:  Mayfield earns respect when he proves they can count on him to produce wins or leave everything on the field trying.  Winning some half-arsed "competition" means about zero.

Bet Bozeman would've known about "earning" it before signing here now...

That whole thing just pisses me off. A proven talented guy comes to what should be a better situation and then finds he's got to compete with some scrub, gets hurt for a couple weeks of practice then the job gets given to the scrub who succeeds in putting the ball in the fake dirt's 5 times? Lol what a clown show. Guarantee not many vets are going to want to come here in the future unless they are desperate.

Hell, I’m fine with a competition but it needs to be a true competition, meaning that you could ask 50 people who they think is better and 25 say option A and the other 25 say option B.

That wasn’t the case with Mayfield and Darnold and it’s not the case with Bozeman and Elflein… yet somehow Elflein is still getting all the run at center… even after snapping the ball off his ass multiple times last week.

The moral of the story here is any competition among players for a position is only as good as the person judging it.

I think Rhule may share a very ominous trait with one Marty Hurney.  They both seem to think they see positives in players that nobody else sees.  Unfortunately, there is a reason nobody else see it.

It wasn't a QB competition, he lied, you can't see it?!

This was all exactly what he wanted to do while trying to deceive the public into believing that bull.

"I can't wait to coach Cam Newton" remember that lie? Integrity? Man of your word?

How does that bus feel to Elfein now? Cam still has fresh treadmarks.

You guys need to go to couples abuse counseling.

This man has absolutely no integrity as far as what he says is concerned. What he's done?! What he's actually done...

Yep.

When someone isn't competent, it's not necessarily that they're always making the same mistake. It's that no matter what the choice is, they tend to make the wrong one.

Reports like this came out at the beginning of Ron’s 3rd year. There were threads on here about him constantly cursing out the players in practice and how they hated him and how he had lost the locker room.

All exaggerated horseshit, of course.

We might be in for a great season. I mean, I’m not going to hold my breath, but we might.

    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
    • poo I doubt any Bucs fan would trade Baker for BY either lol.
