Will Scott Fitterer get to pick the HC or will David Tepper pull a Jerry Jones

Organizations that are well run and consistent usually let the GM pick the coach and the owner is there to rubber stamp it, provide resources and count his billions from afar, organizations that come to mind:

1) Ravens

2) Seahawks

3) Bucs

4) Titans

5) Bills

You don't hear a ton on those ownership groups, they just hire damn good football guys and fade away.

The current Panthers problem is 50% Rhule 50% Tepper. He had a lameduck GM "hire" Rhule when we knew Marty was on his way out. Tepper wanted to prove to everyone he is the smartest guy in the room and splashed so much cash at Rhule that Rhule had to accept. IF you recall, that ruffled many other owners feathers and many of us here praised Tepper for "using his money to get the best". Hindsight is 20/20, that backfired and Tepper has gone on with one misstep over the other with the likes of his soccer team, practice field, handling of superstars, etc.

I think the jury is still out on Fitterer, I like his philosophies. It didn't pan out with Henderson or Darnold but those were desperation moves.

Jaycee Horn- SOLID

TMJ- seems like a bust, will hold out to see if a new coach can revive this kid

Christensen- starting guard

Tremble- suspect if we can use him more like an H-back as SF did with kyle juszczyk he might pan out

Hubbard- meh

Taylor Jr- getting playing time

Brown- bust

Shi Smith- developing nicely

Ikem- high ceiling

Corral- too early to tell

Smith- producing

If you don't trust your football guys in Fitterer and Morgan to find the right coach, then this team is going to be set back another 3-4 seasons and no self respecting GM candidate will want this job

NO.

You hire a consultant to hire a competent GM who will in have input on the coach. The ONLY exception is if you pry away or are able to get a superstar coach who wants certain controls, but even then it’s typically not advised.

Boring answer. But this is how it’s done, period. For a reason. You don’t cling to Hurney and not able to interview legit GM candidates because he still has the title (and look really stupid btw) then let Hurney have input on the next coach before firing him and then let the said college coach have input on the next GM - let alone personnel decisions and mix up all these roles up like an idiot.

Why? Well we have three+ years show you why. And other teams don’t do that poo. Tepper isn’t a path maker or smarter than anyone else. Tepper HAS to get over himself if he is to have any chance. Keeping Fit will show he cannot do that.

This is all ass backwards and muddled. It’s a clusterfug CLEARLY from an owner that has ZERO clue how to run things even from a basic level. You don’t keep important parts of old regimens around, you just don’t.

Stop with the amateur hour poo, let’s get back to what works in the professionals and try and get back to at least mediocrity.

    • I watched a clip of all the offensive snaps. Young threw into some tight coverage and the guys made some plays on the ball. He also really missed some throws.  He has this middle of the field thing into a tight window pretty good and made three or four nice plays but he was just too inconsistent with his accuracy especially in the red zone. Today and in general.    That Int where people were chastising Legette for ‘not fighting through the coverage’, he in no way could have gotten to that ball. IMO. I think he thought it was going to hit the ground and didn’t see the defender coming for it. But not sure what he could have done. The camera doesn’t show the spatial relationship very well, I think the ball was way off. maybe 6 feet or more off target to the inside of the field.  Rico is a beast. And a very good receiver.   That was my impression without dissecting and rewinding, just letting the video roll. I did rewind the int two or three times to look at that one.
    • My biggest issue with keeping Darnold, which I felt we should have done, is we would still have Fitterer. And everything that came with that.  I think Morgan is going to be good.  Baker, just did not play well at all here. Not sure what else we were supposed to take away from it at the time.  That’s my short ‘I don’t want to argue about it’ take.
    • Even if we somehow make the playoffs we will be one and done so fast. Seattle, Rams, TB, Panthers, Detroit and Philly are all better than us.
