Well some of it could relate more to what 89 talked about.  He said 2 weeks ago is when he would do demanded out of Charlotte.

so we likely have guys that want no part of a long rebuild.  There window is now

The window that keeps us noncontenders every season and having to rebuild every couple years trading off our best players and keep drafting not knowing if the top players will transition into the NFL or not.

I wonder if it is because he wants out? I was hoping we wouldn't do anything with Burns until after the season. Also ses early unless it is coming from Burns side and the attention he is getting from teams.

Hard to say no to multi 1st deal. We are in a rebuild or pre-rebuild now. This just seems way early for this move. How about RA first?

I could see why Burns wants out.  Snow   Dropping him back into coverage doesn't give him the opportunity to increase his sack total.  Sack totals = $$$$.

Maybe he'll have a change of heart now that Wilks is in charge.   We still have some leverage with the Franchise Tag.  I'd hope we could resign him and not have to go that route but, if we really want to keep him Tagging may be an option.

Tag is $20 mil for DE this past year, will likely go up a tad.  The tag tightens things up as much as a new contract.  Will be VERY interesting to see how we maneuver this situation.

Burns is really good, but probably overrated by the fan base. If we can get a big haul to move him I say do it. I just don't think he's worth the massive contract it'll take to keep him.

You're talking about a guy who has never had double-digit sacks and is a big liability against the run. Unless we plan to switch to a 3-4 I'd just assume move on and take what we can get.

Burns is a core player; we shouldn't let him go unless we get a really good offer for him.  Fitterer better keep in mind what Tepper said, "I never want to lose on a trade"

We'll see.

I'm just wondering how they get the room to keep him another year, sign a draft class and do practically anything else?

Even if we shed Robbie, Shaq, Elf, rework other contracts (which we already pretty much need to do to get back in the green), we're going to be really limited.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
