He had a good running game, good OL, good WRs, and a good young (developing) defense.  I see your point--that is the only explanation I can provide---it really is baffling.  Maybe Tepper needs to let him move into the stadium.

I thought Ryan would actually be an interesting choice prior to this season, but at this point it's very clear his shoulder is shot. 

maybe he's got like half a season of mentoring a young qb in his next year.

sign matt ryan?  Why?  Look, we're either tanking or making a run at the NFC south because it sucks, both of those scenarios are best done by the guys on our roster.  We tank because our roster sucks, OR, we go on a run because the guys in the locker room rally around each other, and bringing in a guy from outside the building would do nothing but hurt the chemistry that it seems these guys are building.  TLDR : Ride with what we got.
