Offer any team their 2nd for our next year's 2nd and see what happens?  Even if it's the last pick of the round.  It's why we couldn't simply swap next year's 3rd with NE to acquire Corral with their current 3rd, We had to offer our 4th too to make up for the loss of value.  Future picks carry less value than current ones.

Burns isn’t average or slightly above average. he’s good but not great. Year 3/4 is usually when DE’s take the jump sometimes it’s year 5. I’d have pulled the trigger on the trade but it’s still a risk either way. Paying him big money and he just is what he is right now or trading him and the replacement is a bust.

Burns isn't a freak DE.  Peppers was a freak DE.  And there is big difference between the two.  You can pay Burns a lot of money.  It won't make him a Peppers caliber freak though. 

 

Pep first four seasons had 40.5 sacks

Burns has 30.5 currently in his fourth season with 9 games left

Yeah it might be the 3rd most important position.  QB, LT, Pass Rusher.  It's why they make the big bucks.

Just saying but plenty of GM's have been fired with the approach you're going for in trading away players for picks but the problem was those picks did not end up being the returns they had hoped for and in the meantime the team sunk further so either way out of a job. You can find some examples of teams who have had success doing this but there are many more than have failed miserably. The best approach for now is to retain Burns services and look to the draft for a quarterback.

Most great pass rushers are hitting double digit sacks either in year 2 or the first year they start.

Bruce Smith yr 2  15 Kevin Greene 16.5

Deacon Jones yr 2 12.     TJ Watt 13

Reggie White 18.      Derrick Thomas 20

 

So really if he's going to be great typically he would have had a big year by now.

Of course not and I wasn’t calling you stupid. I’m sorry if you misunderstood me for saying that. But some are saying that we shouldn’t trade Burns for two future 1sts because they are worth mid rounders. And THAT is what’s stupid.

If we don’t even have our future coach and QB aren’t on the team until 2023, saying firsts in 2024/2025 are too far away is silly.

Also, appreciation only occurs if the Rams get worse. I think that might be likely given Stafford’s age and his increased hits due to Whitworth and Corbett being gone.

That's just how it works in the Not For Long league.

      Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.

      The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
