Josh Downs the best WR in college ?

2021: 101 rec, 1335 yards, 8 TD

2022: 48 rec, 527 yards, 7 TD

Yesterday @Virginia: 15 rec, 166 yards, 1 TD. Added 57 yards on 2 punt returns. Just one week after Downs had 11 catches for 102 yards and 2 TD in UNC's win over Pittsburgh.

5'10" 175 lbs

Basketball and triple jump back ground. 

high-football-IQ.

He is speed, he clocked in at 4.47s 40 and jumped 42-inch vertical as a high school junior. 

I hope Panthers can select him in the 2nd round but his stock is more a late 1st round and maybe continue to up in next weeks. Probably not the first receiver to be call in the draft, but maybe the best ?

No, not the best. One of the top 5? Maybe, but not the best.

Would he help here? Sure.

Should we draft a WR in the first coue rounds.... probably not. 

QB, DE, TE, ILB...  these should all be addressed before WR. I would even rather adding depth to the OL and DL ahead of WR.

Why would you want to use valuable draft capitol to acquire a player at a position pretty obviously not of need for us (DJ looks great, TMJ obviously was being massively hindered by Fhule, and now looks solid), and where solid talent is easily found in later rounds or FA, and scant evidence exists that elite talent correlates highly with playoff success?

We need pass rushers to take the pressure off of Burns and to give us leverage when he becomes a FA. We need to continue to stock our OL with talent because injuries are a real thing in the NFL, and we need another long term solution at safety all more than we need to worry about acquiring the latest bright shiny toy at WR. A top shelf pass catcher at TE wouldn't hurt either. He can be on the field at the same time with DJ and TMJ easier than Downs could.

People get way too focused on WR's and RB's because of fantasy without examining how much they actually contribute to an actual football team's playoff success or thinking about how easy it is to find nearly as good production for far cheaper when looking around the league at those positions. They are both easily replaceable with solid talent. It rarely pays to focus on trying to obtain elite talent there, when other crucial positions have a much steeper drop off in talent from top shelf and matter more to actual winning.

No, he's a small speed, slot like guy. He may end up being good but I can think of two guys on Ohio State's roster who are better, one on Tennessee, two on USC, umm...probably a few others.

Steve Smith was built different. He was thicker bodied and had the attitude to go with it. Downs is like Dyami Brown or Jahan Dotson. It's not bad but it almost never translates to a 1 in the NFL.

Give me Marvin Harrison Jr. to pair with DJ Moore.

Harrison won’t be eligible yet. Next year is the year to try for him.

      To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…

      Whatever school you attended, I don't know and I don't care, but I would suggest demanding a refund.    Something was completely missed there.

      The draft capital since since 2023 has in no way been pretty even.  Especially when you zero in on day 1 and day 2 draft picks.  Draft capital has vastly gone toward the O over D.
