Remember those draft picks for Watson?

Just draft one. Giving up that kind of capital and then a mega contract is a huge hurdle. It's one thing to pay your own guy after those rookie years and a complete other to trade years of draft capital and then sign a huge guaranteed contract. Add in it's going to be year 1 on a new crew and that is a hell no from me. Let the new people come in, get established, learn some basic lessons making rookie mistakes and then take stock on weather such a giant move would not end up turning toxic.

It makes sense in Madden but not for us next year. Do not want. He is a winner but I hate the thought of being on the buying end of those type deals.

kidding aside I like Lamar but that's a tough pill to swallow for any QB especially with a big payday due. it's hard to construct a team around a QB if the QB takes up so much of the cap and costed 3 1sts to acquire on top of that. If we're picking high in this draft I'd prefer just swinging at a rookie, having a good young QB on a rookie contract is invaluable in this NFL.

There's an awful lot of truth here. The guy is phenomenal right now (and seems like a really great person in addition) but that's an awful lot of eggs in one basket, not just the money (which will be astronomical) but draft picks as well...

As much as he'd look great walking out in our uniform on opening day next year, he's just one bad hit from being a massive liability for years to come. Perhaps developing a rookie QB is really the way to go, especially from a budgetary standpoint. We've got some building to do elsewhere.

And I still want to see Matt Corral out there. He could be the real deal, we just don't know yet.

Can we just use them to trade for a QB that deserves it?

Lamar Jackson is so good that they just beat a 3-8 Carolina team 13-3 and 10 of those points came on very short fields. If our game plan had been to stretch the field vertically and run the ball I feel we may have have a chance to win. Instead Mcadoo packed the box even tighter by going short and run, instead of sideline to sideline or end zone to end zone.

You’re judging him on one game?  Any given sunday.
Look at the entire body of work, he’s elite

there are two things we need to teach our offensive linemen

1. to start kicking the DL opposite them in the nuts and
2. to have them trained to pull out assault rifles and immediately open fire on our qb if he dares leave the pocket

based on 2. i don't think lamar is a good scheme fit here

This is a terrible post. Take a break.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
