If Wilks weren't from Charlotte and a former member of the staff, would you still want him as HC next year?

Im tired of hearing people say Wilks has proven he can be the head coach. No he has not. This past Sunday was his opportunity and he blew it. With playoff implications on the line, he became part of the reason why we lost. That is not what you want in a head coach especially in such an important game. Only thing he has shown is we have a chance to beat lesser teams, but thats not even a given as we saw Mitch Trubisky kick our ass. Wilks is not the answer. Move on.

This past Sunday pretty much imploded his chance imo.  When it came time to nut up he froze and went straight to his conservative roots.

Give Wilks a two year prove it coaching contract with the right to assemble his own staff and input on drafting, team building.

No coach has ever had a “prove it” contract.
Wilks is another Rivera. Panthers fans should want better. Not return to the same poo we had 3 years ago.

Why would Wilkes be another Rivera. Both Fox and Rivera were coordinators with no head coach experience at any level. Wilkes is proven he can get the maximum out of what he has. I think if he wins this week it is an indication the players are playing for Wilkes. They all want to go out on a good note and put up film. What happens after that they don't have much control over.  If we lose I think it hurts Wilkes chances.  Everyone knows it..

Im tired of people saying “players play hard for him” like thats a reason to hire a coach instead of it being a obvious pre-requisite for the job lol. Like shouldnt every coach be someone “players play hard for” ???

If they don't they shouldn't be on the team.

Wilks is a good guy and a good coach. He would work for the right team.

Just think it’s time to try something new in Carolina. Defensive coaches are more conservative. They just are. Defensive coaches sacrifice QB development pieces in order to build a stronger defense. Defensive coaches take their foot off the gas with a 10 point lead half way through the 4th quarter. They don't trust the offense at the end of games. They'd rather have their defense "hold on" to the lead.

And there isn't anything wrong with any of that. It's the safe way. I'm just ready for something different.

Sure, let's go find another one of those college "football" geniuses.

Harbaugh was in the NFL and only left because of conflict Niners GM and owner. But you keep thinking Wilks is gonna do anything and I’ll keep living in reality that interim HC that had the tag removed almost never work out.
Harbaugh is not a “college coach” like Rhule is.
The comparison is asinine.

Quite honestly it’s not even worth responding to.  If you are simply that ignorant a discussion isn’t warranted.

From a roster standpoint we're closer to being ready to compete than we have been for a long time. If you don't believe me, imagine Cam in his prime on this roster. What's your expectations? You expect to be a contender.

We need a coach and a QB. Sticking with Wilks will just waste time and the opportunity of having multiple Young studs at key positions still on rookie contracts. Wilks ain't it. He stabilized the locker room and the players love him. Awesome. That was needed in moving on from the dumpster fire that was Matt Rhule. But from an Xs and Os standpoint? Significant issues. And don't forget, he's a defensive guy and the D got worse after he fired Phil Snow. Even more pointed, he's a secondary specialist and yet we couldn't adapt to Mike Evans simply running go routes to torch us. The improvements came on the offensive side of the ball where we focused on running the ball and not turning the ball over. Thrilling.

Wilks was the right man for the task at hand. He's not the right man for the task ahead.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
    • Well I guess he should stop playing football. This was his defining moment and chance to prove he was generational and he failed. What a waste of football life..
