by turning down the equivalency of two top 7 picks from the Rams and a high second

 

 by letting Reddick walk

 

 you’ve signaled to Burns agent that you highly value him and Burns agent is going to use the TJ Watt deal as framework as he rightfully should. Not necessarily based off stats but based off what you turned away to keep him

 this is about to be a colossal overpay to a guy who disappears in critical games

Way to much for a guy that doesn’t bring it when needed. Almost every time they give out giant contracts it only gets worse it seems. The last thing a struggling franchise needs is overpaid talent and cap hell.

Well I don’t know what letting reddick walk has to do with it; they weren’t a good match together, burns was cheaper, etc

you also can’t let passing on the trade influence the decision on contract moving forward. That’s in the past. He’s either worth a contract or he’s not.

He's not at the same level as Watt or Bosa, so he'll have to take significantly less.

I doubt that. The Panthers really played this hand wrong, Burns has all the leverage

He should cost less than 20 a year or we should just take 2 1st and call it good enough.

He isn't worth top money and if he signs a deal like that he will be another cap casualty when the dead money balance becomes hard to not justify.

He is a top DE it costs to have good players. I mean you can be cheap every year and have a top pick every year like the Lions.

Lol you guys kill me. He has improved every year and is a pro bowl type of player and is extremely young. This is the exact type of player that you want to retain as a core piece of your team. He has 38 sacks in his first 4 seasons (barely playing year 1) is a team captain, pro bowl player and is 24 years old. He will get better and better in his second contract. You pay for future production and we will get plenty of production from 25 year plus Burns

Some of you people are unbearable. You get mad when the team wins because you want draft picks. Then you don't want to pay the good players picked with said draft picks.  You want to trade them for more draft picks. Like I have said multiple times there are more draft nerds here than football fans.

This, I am all about keeping him but not at bank breaking prices. He is a good player but not tops in the league and should be paid according to that. If he demands highest in league then unfortunately keeping him and not trading will turn out to be a bad move but if he take what his true value is then he is a very good piece to have moving forward.
