“I don’t think they draft a QB”

Playing devil's advocate:

It's possible to realize you need a QB, realize your best bet is through the draft, and at the same time genuinely not believe any of the qb's in the current draft are the answer. Whether this is what's happening is anyone's guess, but them saying they don't like the current qb crop doesn't automatically mean they want to keep going after garbage FA options. they could have finally realized they need to draft one, then looked at this draft class and made a face. historically there have been entire drafts with no franchise qb in them, even when that fact wasn't recognized at the time.

They said that the last 3 years (reports 2 years ago said they only liked Lawerence and Wilson)

if you don’t like any of the guy over 3 seasons that they like enough to take and saddle up to develop as your franchise guy.  Then maybe your standards are to high.

you can’t sit around and say your never going to ask a girl out unless she’s miss America.  Or your going to be staying single your whole entire life.

You’re  not going to be the 2 worst teams next year.  So you’re not going to get Maye or Williams.  So then what, stay in the hampster wheel and say maybe 2025?

”oh but maybe they can trade up.”

well if those guys are really that special. Teams aren’t  budging and taking the QB.  You don’t think teams weren’t offering the world for Lawrence?  I know they were for the Jets for Wilson.  But the Jets traded Sam Darnold still on his rookie deal instead and took the cant Miss QB.

Might be bullsh-t, but I think we knew something like this was a possibility when our draft position started dropping.

And while I agree quarterback is our biggest need, would it really be wise to draft someone they didn't think was worth a first round pick just to take one?

But if they don’t think any of the QBs are worth the pick outside the guys going in the top 2 every year.  And never want to trade up.  At some point you need to start looking at your scouts.    Because if that’s how’s it’s going to be you’re never going to fix the QB which just so happens to be the most important position in all of sports.

Will Kunkle who covers the Panthers just said on WFNZ

“I don’t think the Panthers draft a QB”

“They don’t like any of the QBs that are expected to be available.  And do not want to move up for one of these guys.”

If what Will Kunkie said on WFNZ is correct, no one should blame the Panthers if they don't take  a QB in the 1st rd of the 2023 NFL Draft.

I would not be surprised if the Panthers tried  hard to get Carr, if he becomes a free agent.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
