Roman Harper thinks Sean Payton could be our next HC now

Who ever will make me a a contender this year and a deep one playoff run next year.

Yes, start immediately next season. No bullshit Matt Rhule 7 year "process" crap. Contender IMMEDIATELY or not interested. Also no more winning season then a losing season. Serious playoff contender each and every year where finishing anything like 9-8 is considered a huge disappointment.

Tin foil hat theory.... Roman Harper is friends with Sean Payton, and he is using this to help drive up the cost of Sean Payton for his contract offer. If you think about it he is pinning the two richest owners in the NFL against each other. So when he says these things.... it gets a new owner like Rob Walton wanting to make a splash hire and prove he can get whoever he wants.

Roman stating this makes it sound like Walton is going to have to outbid Tepper... considering the Broncos will have to make an offer before Friday's meeting with Tepper.... it's fair to assume that this comment from Roman is more than timely enough to facilitate a false bidding war.

My assumption is that the Broncos make a big offer within the next 18 hours.

That detailed thinking but the 1 caveat, is its not just about Sean. Do the Broncos  have any  worthwhile capital to make a trade?

Again, this right here is why I have zero faith in Fitterer. You trade CMC because we suck (no issue there), but you don’t trade Burns for 2 1sts and pick 37 this year. Now we seem to be interested in a coach that could cost us a 1st and a QB trade up which would also cost us similar.

It feels like we are still in the same freaking place before Rhule with no plan. It’s like McVay said here Panthers, I’ll give you enough draft ammo to get Payton and any QB you want plus I’ll pay Burns’ contract so you’ll have $25M a year to spend on FAs and we said nope. We’ll give away our own first(s) and some of CMC’s bounty and hope we can fill in the roster.

After firing Rhule, and with Tepper's constant interference in football operations, I have no idea if Tepper would sign off on the Burns trade or not. He seems like a guy that think he knows what he knows and consequences be damned. I also don't like that Fitts could be on the hot seat and is having to think about saving his job vs the long term success of the franchise. Tepper really fuged over the organization by keeping Rhule last year when everyone else knew he was full of poo. It's put everything in a bad light as far as operations go. I still think we should have traded Burns if we were looking to do a rebuild correctly.

The only thing that gives me hope that Tepper won't jeopardize the franchise future by giving away high draft capital and total control to a 60 year old flight risk is that he could have given Watson the fully guaranteed albatross deal and we probably would have landed him, but he wisely backed away

I think Fitts would be retained. He just would not have the typical GM power.

Mickey Loomis was a rubber-stamp for Payton after the SB win.  Fitterer could work with him, especially given that he worked for Rhule under similar circumstances

Sean Payton is EASILY the most qualified, and exciting prospect for head coach.

I understand the hate towards him, he was a hated division rival forever.

Put the bias down, and honestly, there is no other I'd rather have.

I won't be upset if we don't hire him, but no other candidate is.more qualified,  and gives you offensive minded HC fans exactly what you want.

Why would be rebuilding?

We have talent all throughout the team.

smh.

He’s a winner, a great offensive mind and a really good coach. Yea he’s a douchebag, but I’d rather have a “douchebag” that sticks by his players than a “nice guy” like Rivera who throws his players under the bus and doesn’t have their back. My only sticking point is having to give up a first for him. That’s a hard pass for me, if the choice is Ben Johnson and Stroud (using next year’s first to move up for him) or Payton and Richardson at #9, I’m taking the former.

Because right now we have no HC, OC, DC or coaching structure of any kind. Our FO is questionable depending on who is hired as HC and how much control they are given. We don't have a QB unless you think Darnold is the answer. If you draft a rookie or roll with Corral, you're still 2-3 years away from being a serious contender while you develop your QB. We lack depth, especially on defense. Sure we could win the division, but TB just got obliterated in the wildcard because they were the best turd in the NFCS. If you are going to commit to becoming a perennial winner, commit. Just winning the NFCS with a losing record isn't "winning" IMO.

In 2-3 years, is that talent still going to be here? DJ, Brown. Chinn. Horn. What other talent are we building around? We have the potential for a good offensive line, but that's going to require constant investment every year. We aren't ready to compete for it all next year. It's time to get the right foundation and build from there and that starts in the FO with Tepper letting football people make football decisions.

    • Exactly, I mean it as no offense to his coaches, but they coach at Holy Cross and not a Power 5 school for a reason. Given his success at that level and his solid testing, I'm surprised he went undrafted, seems like the type that could excel once he gets NFL level coaching. One of higher expectations I've had for an UDFA in a long time.
