Honestly, what got me started on all this was I was researching previous head coaching cycles and came across a lot of similar hype and things being said about Gase at the time.

I did some more research and there are similarities regardless of what Mr. Scot says.

Everytime I bring them up everyone gets defensive without bringing up anymore subject matter.

Your list of similarities included things like "he previously was a position coach".

Really bummed by this and not even because he was the guy I really wanted.

I'd have been happy with him, but ideally if we're not going after Quinn or Ryans (which at this point I don't think we are really), then I wanted a young offensive mind, but really, anyone other than Payton (just can't get on board with giving a first round pick to the Saints).

This only makes it much more likely we go harder after Payton and makes Steichen going to be harder to land as well.

Wow...all of the media hype was pointing to Johnson too. Gotta be Payton at this point. I doubt Johnson would back out up against Steichen.

I also think we've almost equaled the number of coaches that backed out versus ones that have formally interviewed....

Ryans, Mayo, Johnson backed out.

It's in the tea leaves..... Fangio, DC interviews, Johnson backing out. We just better hope there's no tampering involved in relation to the Rooney rule.

If I was a GM looking to save my job and needed to make a splash hire to buy at least another two years I would go with Payton too.  Closest you can get to a can't miss.

Think Payton want to develop a rookie QB? This would be his first time he had to do something like that. Pretty much the only real question I have about him.
