The guy has absolutely worked his ass off to get better.

Hurts has worked hard to make himself what he is today as a player and a leader, happy for him.

However he would not be where he is if we had drafted him. His Coaching would have been much worse. Philly has the best Oline in the NFL, and have depth too. Our Oline was good this year, but still isn't as good as Philly. Philly has very good receivers with 1a Brown and 1b Smith along with a couple other guys who compliment well. Goedert is a very good TE as well, we don't have that. Sanders is a really good all around RB too. We just wouldn't have offered Hurts the same opportunities under Fhule

he also went in the third. he didn't go top ten like Lance and Fields, who are actually garbage. Or Wilson. Speaking of Wilson, Russell went in the third. HEY WE HAVE A QB THAT WENT IN THE THIRD AND DESERVES A CHANCE TOO, but this fanbase wants flashy flash flash quarterbacks every year.

Are you sure he's going to be that impactful with this offense and our lack of weapons?

So what you're saying is ... hire a guy who either turned a bad team around, or improved a poor team's record? So ... Rhule or Wilks?

There are many factors contributing to a QB's success or failure at the NFL level. Some, like drive, learning curve, ability to process at the speed needed in the league, are extremely hard to measure, so while QB prospects are put under an intense microscope pre draft, what often gets overlooked is how unmeasurable these things are, and how this contributes to the crapshoot nature of drafting a QB.

The other thing that I think is overlooked and borderline ignored most of the time, his how big a factor the specific circumstances a young QB finds himself in influence the outcome. The quality of the OL he plays behind, his skill position players, the fit of the scheme to his skillset, the quality of the coaching he receives. Keep in mind all these things matter, and they can vary greatly from team to team.

A common fan perspective is to lament that we could have had so and so player and we didn't draft him. I believe the problem with this idea is the notion that player x's outcome is mostly about him, and that if he were here, the outcome would largely have been the same. I am becoming increasingly of the opinion that environmental factors play a much bigger role in a prospects success or failure at the NFL level than most fans are inclined to consider.

What if we had drafted Hurts?

Maybe he'd have had not nearly as much success if he'd come here.

Coaches play a huge part in the success or failure of football players. Moreover, the notion that players should play right away, particularly QBs, can have profound effect upon the suceea or failure of players as well. Time, patience and coaching means a lot in the success or failure for players.

Yes, he was also a big reason why Herbert went from a raw prospect that many people thought would bust to a top 10 QB.

      I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.

      think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
