Kris Richard

I’ve been doing a deep dive on on the NFL’s best secondaries in terms of passing TD’s and total yards allowed. There is common denominator that keeps popping up and that is Kris Richard.

  He’s done very well everywhere he’s been. He has spent over a decade under the tutelage of Pete Carroll. He also spent years under Dan Quinn and was his successor after Quinn took the falcons job.

As the Seahawks D.C they ranked 1st, 3rd, and 13th in total ppg in his 3 seasons at D.C

He was then let go and joined Dallas. There he improved their secondary. The year before him the cowboys secondary gave up 28 passing TD’s and reduced that number to 21 each of the next 2 seasons (top 10 in NFL).

It appears he took 2020 off and then joined the saints coaching staff as a secondary coach and later  co-defensive coordinator. In those 2 seasons with the saints they have been ranked 3rd in passing TD’s allowed and and improved all the way to 2n in passing yards allowed last season.

He has experience under more household names like Dan Quinn and Gus Bradley in addition to several years under Pete Caroll who is clearly a top NFL Head Coach. 

Additionally he has the perspective of being an actual former NFL player for 6 seasons as well.

His counterpart as co-defensive coordinator just took that D.C job with Atlanta. 
 

I sure think it would be nice to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by stealing him from the saints and making him our defensive coordinator.

Honestly haven’t looked to much into him.  Sounds like a decent candidate.

 

Talked with a Jets guy about the other person we interviewed.  They didn’t seem all that thrilled with him.  Almost like a Al Holcomb or downgrade.

Richard would be a great hire for our DC. He made the rounds in HC interviews a few years back and was a hot commodity for a minute. 

He's slid back into less-popular mentions a la Bieniemy. I like Fangio and think he's #1 on the market, but Richard would be a helluva get. Also stealing a Saints talent to bring here would be great.

If we are fully trying to hit a reset on our style, coaching and schemes, Richard or Manuel would be aligned with Reich. Hiring Bradley is a lot of what we've seen already for the past two decades. 

Reich/Brian Johnson/Richard would look nothing like what Panthers fans are used to.
