I know most everyone is scared off by the thought because of our recent brushes with other teams' leftovers, but I'm convinced this is the right path. It sounds like Carr is going to leverage his way into complete UFA due to the structure of his current deal with LV. I heard this morning that they want him to defer a bonus or something for a certain date to give them time to find a trade, but obviously, because they've treated him so shitty after all he has done for that team, he is refusing, and thus, LV will not really have any choice but to outright release him. So, the first obstacle of giving up compensation is out of the way. Only compensation going out for Carr would be what we decide to pay him. No draft picks.

Second, signing Carr will open up all other possibilities for us in the draft, which Fitt has always said is how we want to approach the offseason. We want to fill in the gaps via FA and such so that when it comes to the draft, we have complete flexibility. Also, I feel like this is the best case scenario even if we are to take a QB this year. I really have grown a liking to the idea of drafting AR. His tools make his potential astronomical snd super exciting, but he is NOT and never will be Cam. Honestly, there was only one Cam and I doubt we see another one for a very, very long time, if ever. But, he can be the first Anthony Richardson, which is exciting in its own right. But, despite encouraging film in his first year as a starter as the season wore on, he still is very raw. And yes, the idea of starting a rookie and him blossoming into some superstar year one is uber sexy, but not likely, especially with this class. That's why Carr makes so much sense. 

We are literally a QB away from a division title, and maybe that QB plus an upgraded starter or two away from a conference run/Superbowl. We are so much closer than many think... Signing Carr will make all options a possibility going into the draft. My preference is to still take Richardson in the first, but if the staff doesn't like it? It gives us the freedom to trade back, pick up more picks and fill out the roster and we still are in position to make a deep playoff run.  

Again, I know many are gunshy about picking up another QB let go by another team, and I understand. But Carr is not like Darnold or Baker. Netierh of them had ever played up to or lived up to the expectations that were placed on them, at ANY point in their careers. We were essentially hoping to find something in them that they never demonstrated with their original teams, and that's why they were ultimately fruitless endeavors. The evidence was already there. The evidence is already clear with Carr as well... He has shown an MVP level of play when put in the right situation. He is an unquestioned leader that guys want to play with and for. It just so happens that he had fell out of favor with renowned dumbass, Josh McDaniels, and is now available as a result. Well, sign me up...

I'm not scared of signing Carr. He's better than our previous options work.

I get why folks don't want to go with another "veteran reclamation project" but you also have to look at the player himself. How much actual "reclamation" is really involved in sighing Carr?

We're not talking about another Sam Darnold here.

I'm ok with signing Carr as a veteran, as long as we set our sites on a young QB high in the draft this year or next.  I think Carr gives us the luxury of deferring our young QB acquisition until next year, whereas right now it needs to be sooner rather than later.

People say the Raiders had a lot of talent but he could not lead them to the playoffs this year.  Perhaps, but he was good enough to help propel that team to the playoffs last year, something Raidahs' fans have noted in their indictment of McDipstick.  Let's remember, that genius left the Broncos is a pile of ashes before he was jettisoned, and he would likely be out of work right now (or back in New England as the OC under Hoodie) if the Raidahs organization had any money. 

So somebody is going to capitalize on Vegas' making a bad HC hire and being stuck with that for a while.  It might as well be us.  He may be the best FA QB available, assuming the trade possibilities dies under its own weight.  I doubt anybody is going to trade for his current contract while the sand is running out of that hour glass.

I don't know if Carr can get the Panthers to an Owl, but I agree with you, he can get the team to the next level and fills an immediate need regardless of whatever else we do to address that need:  a starting QB.

But, it is up to what the new staff thinks of him.  As @Mr. Scot said, he is not really a reclamation project.  He just needs to be utilized, something that is beyond McDipstick.

im not about going to continue to dig through other people’s trash to patch the most important position in sports.

 

Carr has been second in the NFL in ints only behind Baker since Mayfield has been in the league.  He’s a poor man’s Kirk Cousins who ceiling is win you the division in a weak division.

      Yeah, Darnold is basically a really high level game manager. Put him on a good team where he isn't required to provide lift and he can shine. But when you need him to do the franchise QB thing and put the team in his back here comes the INTs. He just doesn't seem to have any positions on his dial between "super conservative take whatever's there and take care of the ball" and "YOLO!!! There's a receiver down there somewhere in that sea of defenders!"

      See, it's posts like this that show me how many of you are taking my post as an anti Dowdle post and saying he didn't have a good game, but that's the furthest thing from my intention and what I'm trying to say. Because that's the comparison you're making with Bryce, it's adding or removing a small handful of plays from their stats and saying "this is the game they could have had instead" I'm literally only talking about the play calling from the game, it's literally in the title of the thread, that we still have play calling problems. I'm saying that people are going to get stuck on the 200 yard rushing game by a player and extrapolate that to "well Canales must have called a good game" and I'm trying to say not to fall for that mirage. Because 6 big runs do not make for a well called game when we had over 60 snaps. Even beyond that, if you add in the two 20+ yard catches from T-Mac and the one XL had, and you're looking at 9 of over 60 snaps that accounted for close to 60% of our yards in the game. That's a few big plays covering up for coaching deficiencies, that's NOT a well called 60 minutes of football. Had he had the 200 yards because Canales' play calling was keeping the defense on their heels, not knowing what we were doing next, and Dowdle was ripping of 8-12 yard runs on a consistent basis, then yea, that would be something to be excited about with Canales finally calling a good game for a change. Our offense is predictable and the play design is basic, there is nothing I've seen out of Canales' offense that says he's able to scheme and call plays to outsmart the defense, which is something all the elite offensive coaches are able to do in this day and age.
