It's playing the game the NFL put in play, but not really one I'd want to admit to playing. I'd want everyone on my staff knowing their abilities are why they're in the building.

And here I am thinking we hired Evero because he was the best DC available. Of course Tepper hired him because we would get a third round pick a few years from now. Makes total sense.   /s

Look if you have two candidates that you see as equal, but one will net you two 3rd round picks....seems like the policy is working as intended.

Wouldn't this discourage teams from signing minority head coaches because it gives an advantage to other teams?

While you may hire a guy for a third round pick, you don’t pass on a preferred candidate because someone gets a third round pick. SF has been racking up the picks and no team is batting an eye.

During an offseason where the hope is they can trade up and get their QB they needed to try and recoup some of those picks somehow

I like that he wanted to diversify the staff not only for the sake of better quality coordinators but also to shoot down the obvious elephant in the room that black coaches arent seen as equal in many instances.
