Tony Pauline: CJ Stroud or Anthony Richardson

So some are saying it's Stroud or Young, Some are saying Stroud or AR, some are saying any of the 4.  The common variable is Stroud.  I'm thinking a team can trade up for our pick if they want to overpay and we would be OK with AR as plan B, but it was need to be a dumb trade.  Desperation may set in after FA who knows...  Stroud is plan A at 1.

Not at all...

If you like more than one player equally, you could move back, gain additional picks to make your roster even better and still get one of the guys you wanted.

I'd call that pretty smart.

If that was the case, then the smart play would have been moving up to 3 or 5 since that would have been cheaper and let the team keep their #1 WR.

Red flag for me regarding coaches and GMs, "We can fix him" mentality...

Yeah that would be a red flag. IMO, football mentality is hard if not borderline impossible to fix.
You can fix mechanics but most of the time the QB’s mentality you get out of college is the mentality you are gonna have to live with while he is the QB here.

He is today. But in a month and a half, that may change.

Not at one.  If we stay there, its going to be Stroud.  If we trade down to 2, it will be either Stroud or Young depending on who's there.  The only way we draft Richardson is if we trade down further than the top two spots.  I don't see us doing that.  There is really nothing Richardson can say or do that would warrant us picking him over Stroud or Young.  These reports are nothing but our front office putting out smoke screens.  Keeping everybody on their toes.

This is my feeling. I think its pretty clearly Stroud but we clearly want some smoke around it.

If we get the sense that the Texans want AR and the Colts want Levis, why would we not move back?

Should we think, "The Colts want Levis if picking at #4?"  I mean, is that perception based on the idea that Young/Stroud are gone by #4?  There are going to be some shocking picks during this year's draft.  To counter that point, did the Colts try to trade with the Bears (to me, that was the obvious trade up partner) but maybe they did not have the WR the Bears wanted?  I dunno.  What are the lies and who are the spies?

Breer actually stated that one of the reasons we decided to go all the way up to #1 is that there wasn't a huge difference between what the Bears wanted and what the Cardinals wanted for their respective picks.

I believe we moved up to have control - not necessarily for a particular guy.  I don't think we have figured that out yet, and still have lots of time to do so.  If Richardson ends up being our favorite after due diligence, then I hope we can trade back a little.

I agree it's highly unlikely, but if the Texans or Colts offer us something stupid-good in a compensation package, then anything is possible.

Tepper and Co have been trying to game the system and prove their smarter than the rest of the league since he bought the team. It hasn't worked out yet and I highly doubt trading up for "control" will too.
