It's Stroud and it shouldn't even be close

He has the tape, the arm, the mental processing.  He has the highest floor and his potential is there too. 

Bryce Young is good but severely undersized.  I think he can still play but would have to work out of a shotgun his entire career and avoid getting hit.

AR 15 is a project - you can't waste a #1 pick on him, way too much risk based on what we gave up.   I would have been fine with him at #9 but now that we traded up and have the pick of the litter, it would be idiotic not to draft Stroud.

Everything else better be just smoke 'n' mirrors otherwise I will lose it if we don't select Stroud or Young.

There's two years of him showing up elite level processing. All he needs to do is come out throw dots (which he will).

I’m not sure how amazing his pro day will be. He will look solid throwing the ball, but Young’s strength is his tape and football IQ. AR and Levis’s pro day will have people talking.

I think Young has elite level processing, no concerns there.  But size is a big deal in the NFL, staying healthy is a challenge playing 17 games in a season.  Being able to see routes over the top of 6'7 defensive linemen is a real challenge.  Those things don't matter that much in college because you're not playing against elite defenders  every single week.

Everything about playing qb, isn’t in question. It’s that other thing that everyone is infatuated about.

It’s been pointed out countless times on here and I’m sure I’ll get flack for it. Yes, fine, Young didn’t play elite nfl players every week. Stroud will not have Garret Wilson, Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison Jr, Jaxson Smith Njigba, and Emeka Egbuka level wr talent gap over primarily big10 level CB. Terrace Marshall, Laviska Shanault, Shi Smith and maybe Jakobi Meyers… Adam Theilen, Juju… and whatever leftover is at 39 (I hope Hyatt for the team build purposes). Yep. Young will ALWAYS be small and that’ll scare a lot. But there is a chance that Stroud ends up being just a solid mid tier qb, unless ya surround him with real talent. And that’ll be hard to do until like 2024 because THIS team needs a first round WR. Not a solid wr 2 , a real bonafide one. It also needs a real WEAPON out of the backfield . Not Chuba Hubbard. It also needs usage at Tight End, not Ian Thomas. 
 

Our build is exactly why I’m afraid of Stroud and get crap for it. If we had ATL weapons, fine yeah absolutely Stroud has 2 huge targets that are potentially elite. Come here and you’ll have to scrape the bottom of the barrel (and do not try to sell me on this FA class of wr please) at damn near all positions.

      Sometimes it's nice to get an outside perspective on things we are emotionally invested in. NYT/Athletic did a midway breakdown of every teams' biggest offseason acquisitions. Here's our part: Notable additions: Nikolaj Ehlers ($8.5 million x six years), K’Andre Miller (acquired in exchange for a conditional 2026 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and Scott Morrow) Early return: It took the Hurricanes some time to find Ehlers’ ideal lineup fit. He began the season on a line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis, but that combination didn’t really click, with their marquee signing registering just four points in his first 11 games. Since then, though, Ehlers has settled in and found his groove. The dynamic, speedy Danish winger has scored 27 points in his last 31 games. He initially built chemistry with Logan Stankoven and Jackson Blake, but with Jarvis’ injury, he’s been bumped back up to the top line with Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, with this new-look trio clicking impressively. Ehlers’ game-breaking puck-carrying ability has added an exciting new dimension to Carolina’s rush attack. He’s been a consistently dangerous play-driver (Carolina’s controlled 60 percent of scoring chances during his five-on-five shifts) and I’d argue his point production has actually undersold his impact on Carolina’s offense. Ehlers has collected a point on just 52 percent of the five-on-five goals he’s been on the ice for — he’s been snakebitten and has deserved to pick up a few more assists. I’m also still a fan of Carolina’s expensive bet on Miller. Yes, he’s made occasional mistakes and has been narrowly outscored during his five-on-five minutes despite his strong underlying metrics, but context is important. Miller was supposed to lead Carolina’s second pair, but Jaccob Slavin’s injuries (he’s only played five games this season) have forced him to take on a larger top-pair role. That’s meant eating a career-high 22:35 per game and handling some of the toughest matchups of all NHL defensemen. Miller has held his own in this daunting role, and I’d expect his performance to level up once Slavin’s return allows him to settle into the second-pair slot he was actually acquired to fill.
