McCown to CJ : “Maybe when you move to Charlotte”

At one time Charlotte was one of the fastest growing cities in the country.  What you hate about Charlotte will happen to Raleigh,a biggish city with no identity.  Like how no one is from Charlotte, no one will be from Raleigh as well.

People who hate on those cities aren’t too aware of what other cities are like. Those with history/culture/character also have a lot of issues that come with that diversity such as engrained disparity. Lots of raff. Some don’t want to deal with that. As I get older and have lived just about in every mid to large city, both Raleigh and Charlotte are fantastic, above average cities to settle down for those over the age of 30.

It still is one of the fastest growing cities. It's 6th to Raleigh's 2nd.

Anyhow, I also have traveled and lived in a lot of different cities around the country. I never said that Charlotte was a bad city, or any of the cities in the state. It's just very generic feeling. Like if an AI was asked to create a city or something. It's a fine place to live. I live in the Charlotte metro area on Lake Norman by choice so it's not like it hate it or anything. It's quite lovely. I just don't think it's like some comparably amazing city to the majority.

Back to the topic, if you combine McCown's comment (if he said "live") and the fact that Houston was not really there in full force, it tells me a few things:

1. The Texans think the Panthers will go with Stroud and they are not buying the Panther smokescreen.  Maybe they wanted to seem disinterested in Stroud to lure the Panthers into trading--hoping they would assume the Texans want young.  Could be some chess moves going on here--or not.

2. The Panthers probably have Stroud #1 on their board, at least #1 on McCown's board

3.  The comment, if reflective of discussions with the staff, suggests that the combine, interviews, and pro day suggests that he "checks all the boxes".

4. If Stroud "checks all the boxes" then there is no way Young can impress enough to get the job because he is 5'10" and probably will be for a while.  5" of height and somewhere around 15-20 lbs of weight is significant if the players are otherwise pretty equal.

Texans arent going to Young's either. Its just their stance on Pro Days as a whole.

Wow you're a real pillar of the community jeez

Charlotte has indeed gotten rough it's a shame. But part of the problem with that here and across the country is due to a number of reasons. Many Americans need to do some soul searching. The American value system now is the worst it's ever been. Everything is me me me I want I want fancy 500k and up condos everywhere fancy and or enormous new cars suvs and trucks that cost upwards of 100k and affordable housing gone. So many want to live well beyond their means. Eventually the chickens will come home to roost on all this .

I love the panthers but a game at BOA will never amount to a Canes home game at PNC. NHL playoffs are on a different level and Raleigh delivers every single time the Canes have a home game. Raleigh delivers regardless. Canes have the second highest attendance in the league.

Still amazed how quickly it went from not being able to give tickets away to now.
Still need to go to a game.

People will hear whatever they want to hear - there is no 'v' anywhere in what McCown said. I am a bit surprised, for the better however, that no one seems to care about Stroud saying he was going to take McCown's money. Seems like the type of thing that clickbait internet clowns would find a ludicrous way to be all over.

I thought that was a really cool exchange. It shows the potential connection those 2 could have. Not that it wouldn’t be the same with any of the other prospects. McCown just seems like a good dude.

I drive all over this state for work. There are some pretty diverse spots. The Raleigh/Charlotte debate is weird for me. Charlotte became what it did despite the politics in Raleigh. Quite the feat. As for Gastonia, it's growing right along with every other town in this state. Belmont is quite the jewel over there, however. But glad to call Concord home.

Yeah, he did say " when you're in Charlotte "  .

What that means is,, he'll be drafted by Texas or Indy and they both play on Charlotte this coming season..

We're going to convince Bo Nix , Oregon , to come out early and draft him #1 .   Or Draft Drake Maye and get him to sigh in late Dec when his time at college will have run it's course .

🤣🤣

( I bet Josh tells Bryce Young the same thing today  hahaha )

It seemed to me when josh did his underdog vids, his clear favorite was CJ Stroud.

I may be wrong, but there wasnt a AR vid, i doubt hed change.

Smartest pick is Coleridge Bernard "C. J." Stroud IV and thats what should be on the card turned in.

I regularly watch the Underdogs videos. They were planning to do an AR vid, but they couldnt because he got hired by the Panthers.... so yea, change of plans. But he definitely has a soft spot for CJ.

    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
