Two questions... do you know what "in a vacuum" means and you realize the outcome of something doesn't mean something else was a bad decision, right?

Trading a conditional 5th round pick for a QB just a year removed from carrying the freaking Browns to the playoffs, is 100% a smart decision, no matter how it ended up, it was the correct call and risk to make at the time.

The Darnold trade was more questionable, but still the correct and smart decision at the time.  Sure, in the end it sucked to lose the 2nd rounder we gave up, but the 4th and 6th rounders in the deal are closer to throwaways than real losses.

And in the situation we were in at QB, a 2nd round pick for someone who still had legit starting potential at the time, was again, absolutely a smart risk to take.

No, they didn't work out in the end and the two trades stacked on top of each other do compound each decision individually to make it worse, but that's why "in a vacuum" they were the correct and smart decisions at the time.

Was drafting Ryan Leaf the smart decision for the Chargers at the time?  

Of course it was

Was it a good decision that worked out when looking back?

Of course it wasn't

Doesn't mean it wasn't the smart decision at the time.

Like the idea of trading for Sam Darnold and negotiating against ourselves. That was also a joke.

I think those are Rhule QBs. Tepper wanted Watson and liked Fields.

Darnold trade was pure idiotic he was 30th in QBR before coming here next season here, he was 31st lol. It made no sense to get Sam but Matt had the wool pulled over DT eyes

No disrespect to Tepper but let the football guys make the decisions. Don't become Jerry Jones of the South.

Oh I agree he needs to let the football guys make football decisions, but that is what he did with Rhule. At the end of the day if he doesn’t trust his GM and HC to make the right call, he hired the wrong people which I don’t think is the case.

      Another source: NFL Rumors: Hakeem Butler to Visit Panthers After UFL Success, Wade Phillips' Praise ZACH BACHAR JUNE 10, 2024 The Carolina Panthers are expected to conduct a workout with UFL wide receiver Hakeem Butler, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Butler recorded a league-leading 652 receiving yards as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks. He was previously a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. After the Battlehawks were defeated by the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL Conference title game, Brahmas head coach and longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips told the receiver that "I'm going to tell everybody in the NFL that I talk to that you need to be playing," via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. Despite the loss by St. Louis, Butler still hauled in six receptions for a team-high 59 receiving yards. The 28-year-old was named the 2024 UFL Offensive Player of the Year, as he was one of only two wideouts to have multiple games with at least 100 receiving yards. While the Panthers added Diontae Johnson and first-round rookie Xavier Legette to their wide receiver room in the offseason, they could still use some depth in the form of Butler. Carolina isn't opposed to picking up former UFL players, as Rapoport revealed on Thursday that the team is also "expected" to sign All-UFL receiver Daewood Davis. Although Butler was selected by the Cardinals in the 2019 draft, he did not play as a rookie due to a hand injury and only appeared in two regular-season games as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. He did not record a catch. Butler signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2023 offseason, although he ultimately didn't make the team's regular-season roster. At 6'5", he has the frame to potentially make an impact in training camp and earn a shot at making Carolina's 53-man roster. If his workout goes well with the Panthers, Butler could give himself another chance to possibly return to the NFL.

      They have all the rookies. The DC game has Ron though. With the new QB. It is weird.  pantherclaw, Bryce sort of is what he is, and in Madden he makes throws the real Bryce can’t make. Here and there. He ain’t ain’t a top QB in Madden though, lots of picks. aone of them lol was the throw that scares the hell out of me when he throws it, out to the boundary... quack quack.
