Is it time to take the Falcons seriously?

I think they're making a bad bet on Ridder but their defense should be drastically improved.

I suppose it's also possible that they just want the rest of the league to be convinced that they're committed to moving forward with Ridder when in reality QB is very much on the board for them at #8 and they don't want someone to leapfrog them.

I hope these moves are only good enough to keep them away from drafting a top QB next year and be stuck with Ridder.

Jesse Bates is great, i'm not sure who else on that list is supposed to be frightening. They'll be good enough to annoy people but i'm not sure they'll be division winning good.

Jessie Bates is actually overrated, heavily. Idk if I’ve said that I’ve watched Bengals games along side Panthers games and he genuinely doesn’t make the impact that you’d think he would with his name. Oddly enough, Vonn was exponentially better.

their roster is aggressively mediocre on D. I still see nothing threatening from a skill position group (or OL) that makes me think a toss up at young QB will be able to do much

Their OL was top 5 last year (they just made Lindstrom the highest paid G in the NFL) and they have Pitts, London and Allgeier plus the draft this year. They had the 15th best scoring offense last year with bad qb play from Mariota.

Those are bigger names than talents at this point. I would say they'll hover near .500 but I don't see them as a threat to win the division, certainly not with their QB situation which isn't getting fixed this year.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
