From that list, I would probably take Heinke as a backup if I wanted someone who could win a few while my starter was out.

Regarding Cam - 2011, 2012 Cam was a promising rookie.  2013-2017, Cam was one of the best qb's in the NFL.  After his arm got hurt, his career was done.  Sucked for us, because I thought we were set at qb for a good 10-12 years, especially after the 2013 Patriots game.

Of that list? I'll stick with Andy. He really has had a decent career.

I was one of those that did not want Cam. But man, did he wind up being something. The most exciting player on the field every week, and just a joy to witness.

This year, I did not want Bryce. But man, everything I've heard about him has been glowingly positive. Fingers crossed the future works out the same. With the added hope of a longer career.

Cam was a joy to behold. Let's hope Bryce can come close to replicating that.

My thing is why is Cam always the only player who gets negative talk on this sub?

I don't think I ever seen anyone say a negative thing about Luke Kuechly or Thomas Davis or Greg Olsen.

All this does is prove Cam has legit haters. It's fine just accept it and stop questioning others because they are die hard fans of Cam.

Greg Olsen got plenty of hate when he wanted that raise as well as after he got that raise and then had a little injury bug there for a bit.

Luke was damn near perfection aside from a rare missed assignment but linebackers just arent going to get the hate like a QB will. QB is the most critical position out there and only under the head coach as far as criticism and hate goes. Look at Frank Reich. Everyone is excited and in love with him but if he comes out and drops 5 games straight a lot of these fans will be calling for his head and making memes of him with a dumb look on his face.

With Thomas Davis's injuries early on in his career I do remember some saying to cut him especially after the last major one but then he turned into everyones long shot underdog and came back a very solid player so everyone loved him. If I remember correctly he made mostly solid plays like Luke and seeing him mess up was a rarity especially in his prime. Couple that with him being a huge emotional leader on the team and I do believe he was untouchable as far as hating goes.

I dont fully understand some of the Cam hate back in the day when he was young. We watched him grow from a young man who hid his head under a towel when he had a bad play or the team was losing to an emotional leader himself. He truly trashed his body carrying this franchise on his back. Put a different QB on this team in 2015 and we would have been nowhere near the playoffs or superbowl I believe. I will never hate on Cam, Luke, Greg or Thomas Davis as I love all those guys and they are Panthers legends and historic faces of the franchise. I guess Cam just gets some of it because he was a QB and its always fun to blame the QB for anything and everything much like it is the head coach.

The players you mentioned above haven't , aren't trying to make an NFL team when they're done.

Cam is the best player my Carolina Panthers have ever had. PERIOD.  ( only MVP this team has ever come close to having )

I loved him as a player.  NO HATE. But some of y'all can't get over the fact , his career is over . And for some reason, if I don't want him as  a back up, you guys with the I LOVE CAM tattoos lol,  say I'm a hater.

No I don't want him in a Panthers Uniform.  I'd love to see him involved with the team in some aspect.

The dense crew here just throws out garbage false equivalencies and abandon logical thinking if their idol is besmirched.

I loved having Cam as our QB. I also love signing the best players we can to our roster and Cam is not one of them. Ship sailed, guys. Retire your 2015 NFC champion shirts and hats.

It hurts you people cheer for Cam?

That's basically what it comes down to. We can't even discuss the topic because people want to talk about Cam.

At some point you have to realize Cam is popular and his fans will always be fans. Nobody is even talking about Cam coming back. The people who say that do it just to get guys like you to respond. Cam career is over but his fans will still root for him.

This is how YOU kicked off replies to this thread. Stating emphatically that a 2021 Cam is in an entirely different tier than all other recent back-up QBs we've had. You INJECT foolish talk into threads. When called out, you play victim and point to others with rational thinking as "Cam haters."

Thank you. He's a drama queen.

To an extent, it probably depends on what the team around them is and how big of a load is asked of them.

Ask very little and to efficiently manage a game? Teddy moves higher.  Cam probably moves up too in a running O playing to a good D.

Bad team around them and ask them to pull off some magic? Other QBs have higher odds of working out that random offensive miracle.  Teddy starts falling.  Cam falls way down.  PJ, Taylor, start to rise up some.

Just a thought experiment. Was  looking at a list of top 10 back-up QB's in the league and the red rifle came in at #2. And that got me thinking... even though he's our back-up, is he one the best QB we've had on the roster in the last few seasons?

The List:

  • Kyle Allen
  • Taylor Heinicke
  • Bridgewater
  • PJ Tucker
  • Sam Darnold
  • Andy Dalton
  • Baker Mayfield
  • Post-Patriots Cam Newton

My Ranking:

Bridgewater 4

Andy Dalton 2

Taylor Heinicke 1

Post-Patriots Cam Newton 5

Sam Darnold 3

Baker Mayfield 6

Kyle Allen 7

My thoughts.

I fuging hate the bullshit around Cam.

Evidently ya can't say anything negative without hating. And even them it's the teams fault.

fug that stupid narrative.

When we drafted Cam, I was excited, because of his potential to be one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

While Cam was a great athlete, and a force on the field, he failed to live up to even moderate expectations from myself.  This all the while wanting him to be the best. That's not a hater, that is a supporter, and one that doesn't sit here way too long down this stupid broken road, still wearing Cam colored glasses.

I am with you. I feel Cam’s story is one of unfulfilled potential.
I always rooted for him and the team. Always.

Hate is a word used erroneously nowadays by so many that don’t understand what real hate is (hint: it is even stronger than what people are feeling that are mad at me for ‘hating’ on him).

    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
