Mecklenburg County manager says no to public funding for Panthers

Probably true if you look at it from a stadium perspective only, but what’s the ROI on having the Panthers team in Charlotte and in NC?   Hypothetically speaking if Tepper moved the team to a city that is willing to subsidize a new stadium, do you really believe there wouldn’t be a substantial  economic hit to Charlotte and the Carolinas?

Rams left St. Louis in 2016. They saw a slight flattening that year. Right back to business as usual until COVID.

You can't even tell the Chargers left San Diego in 2017.

Now consider the potential impacts spending those hundreds of millions on different municipal investments.

Public spending on pro sports stadiums is just bad business.

Tepper should pay me and everyone here for wasting our time watching his team suck ass since he bought it.

The fact that these billionaires want taxpayer money is ridiculous.

Public-private partnership to drive economic growth. Uptown Charlotte would be okay without the Panthers but a ton of businesses would lose massive revenue streams driven by Fall Sundays.

Imagine the outrage from many if the money went to............ schools and libraries and teachers

I'm not even joking as sad as that sounds.

This was widely accepted by the community.... no outrage...

If it is such a great, then Tepper could do it all himself and really reap some incredible rewards.

But, honestly, part of what makes it such a money maker for guys like him is that we rubes foot half or more of the bill, then pay for all the tickets, the hotdogs, the parking, the tshirts, the commemorative bath mats...

Yeah, let's stop with the corporate welfare, especially for a billionaire's toy.

I mean, hey, we enjoy it, they enjoy it. Let's not sully it with tax monies.

Now if he wants to cut a deal with us like 51% of the franchise, guaranteed home in Charlotte and a heavier split in all revenues... maybe we could talk. But he won't. He likes us as suckers.

Rich people don't get and stay rich by putting their own money on the line.  Thats like Rule #1.

Tepper will get his money. And the city of Charlotte will tell it's residents that it can't afford to provide for basic municipal needs because of budget constraints. We live in an oligarchy larping as a democracy and we have for awhile now.

And if we aren't careful, it will be a fascist, theocratic, plutocratic autocracy.

To be clear, city residents in NC also pay county taxes. So, while Tepper will pony up some of the money, Charlotte will have to come up with the rest as Meck County will not raise property taxes in order to contribute.

And, in my humble opinion, the residents shouldn't have to foot the bill for any of these stadium renovations, new construction or otherwise given how much money the NFL and individual teams are raking in every year.

But we'll open a new brewery!!

Every last one of you: Well I don't mind forking out a little then
