Bryce has been dropping dimes right into the bread basket on the passes I saw. Minus the theilen clip that was posted here yesterday. He’s gotta get that ball up a bit to allow for YAC. That said I understand it’s just training camp and he’s a rook.

This has always been the case.

While I have much more confidence in our staff than in previous years, I still occasionally question moves they make. D. J. Johnson in the third? Okay, I'll reserve judgement. Keeping Henderson around is another. My conclusion is either they think they can get more out of him or there's literally no one better out there in the coaches' estimation.

I normally dog on this team a lot, it's well earned, but these moves don't bother me as much as some others.

DJ was selected because of a run, and a need....and his profile.  EE sees something there that gets him excited for his defense...who knows how it will turn out, but I really like seeing a DC be IN on a player, explaining that to both the coach, and the GM/scouts, and them agreeing with is idea and approach.  Again, could be a bad call, but I do like the conviction and communication.

As to CJ....he's an incredible athlete, is young, is fairly cheap, has been poorly coached, and both of our starters are coming off of injury, with one of those being an achilles.  I totally get the move, and yes, he's better than most anything out there currently.

It sounds like the defense is catching up to the offense in preparation and execution on the field.  Iron sharpens iron as they say. I can't wait to see what happens when the pads go on and the tempers flare.

The conundrum of camp. Is this player/unit really good or does that other player/unit just suck?

    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
    • I'd give anything to go back to a 4-3 but we are so removed from having the pieces for that. All because Tepper wanted to force this 3-4 on all our coaches.
