Roster Projection

I was like, "Who the fug is AT?" Don't some of y'all know that some of us are too old to be trying to figure these things out? 😂

The only initials I know for sure are TMJ, but that's always been a thing.

Admittedly, I seem to always forget about Thielen, which may be a matter of expectation or projection.

This is what I think as it stands now.

I think Tecklenburg or McCray is a place holder until Corbett comes back. With the log jam at WR, Im predicting Vann to take over as the sole punt returner. His average in college is just amazing. We could really use the extra spot if we only kept 2 QBs, but sticking with 3 until something is said about it in the future.

The extra OLBs are due to the uncertainty of depth there. I thought it would be more important to keep more bodies there than the FB Ricci. I also am unsure we move Luvu to OLB and wouldnt want to. I dont want us to put guys in positions they are unfamiliar with just because of lack of talent there. 3-4 OLBs are usually 4-3 DEs which Luvu has never been. Besides I would much rather have a strong rotation of Shaq and Luvu with Jones and Smith.

Five safeties is a bit much, this is where only having 2 QB would help elsewhere, like the D-line. Which I would like to add another body there if I could or to the Oline or perhaps another TE. For the other UDFAs, Redmond I think will take a backup spot and I would like to keep and see Wrights development than keeping Taylor.

You left off Zavala at guard. I doubt he gets cut. I agree with the rest of the roster.

I meant to put him on there and put the right side of the line in bold.  I'm middle aged, technologly is baffling to me.  Additionally, I may or may not have been doing this when I should have been "working"

not much news about Thielen this camp so far. Hear more about the other receivers so easy to forget about him. I think he'll be a bit better Cotchery for us, and Cotch really was solid in his role (and he caught it). I bet Thielen gets similar yards but way more TDs.

Some slight changes, but I like your projection for the most part.

Think Byrd wins the WR6 spot as the primary returner.

Made a couple of changes to Oline.  Corbett will be on PUP to start the season so he won't take a roster spot

I think YGM and Barno both make the team.  I also think Haynes will be the OLB opposite Burns as of now.

I think EDGE and Oline depth are the 2 areas of the roster probably the most still in flux.  Could possiblt be one more addition in the secondary, but for the most part, I think this team is fairly set.

Starters in Bold

Offense

  • QB: (3) - Young, Dalton, Corral
  • RB: (3) - Sanders, Chuba, Blackshear
  • WR:(6) - Chark, AT, TMJ, Mingo, Viska, Byrd
  • TE: (3) - Hurst, Thomas, Tremble
  • OL: (10) - Icky, BC, Boz, Zavala, Moton, Mays, Coleman, Irving, Nash Jensen, McCray
    • Corbett on PUP to start the season

Defense

  • DE: (3) DB, Anderson, D. Williams
  • DL: (2) Tuttle, McCall
  • OLB: (5) Burns, Haynes, DJJ, YGM, Barno
  • ILB: (4) Shaq, Frankie, D. Jones, KGH
  • CB: (5) Horn, DJAX, CJH, Taylor, STO
  • SS: (3) Bell, Rowe, Jammie
  • FS: (2) Woods, Franklin
  • Flex: (1) Chinn

ST

  • (3) Heckler, Pinero, JJJ

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
