What I'm looking for in the third preseason game

The gadget plays yes, but I was alluding more to growth as a route runner. He's look kind of lost so far and seemingly can't separate.

We'll see how he develops there. Even if he remains just a gadget guy he'll be worth what we gave up for him. Having a guy like that out there that the defense always has to account for is a nice chess piece.

Atlanta's offense even with Ridder at QB will be very good this year, gameplan with HAVE to be stopping the run and hoping that Chinn can cover Pitts while Jaycee blankets London.

I wouldn't say very good but probably better than you'd expect. They're gonna lean very hard on Bijan and run the style of offense that John Fox has erotic dreams about at night.

Ross Tucker said that for defense only look for individual effort from the unproven players. That a DC in preseason is not going to show you anything of what they intend to do during real games.

I'm not concerned about the scheme. I don't think we've seen much of it. What I'm concerned with is simple assignment football. Our gap discipline in the run game has been largely terrible and we've seen blown coverages by the starters in both games.

Evidence of competency. Downplay it all you want but what we've seen this preseason is concerning. Our OL hasn't slowed anyone down yet and our D is missing a lot of gap assignments. That's not a scheming thing. That's a lack of competency.

Our defense isn't as talented as everyone makes it out to be lol.

Shaq is still just an ok LB and we have nothing beside him. We have no NT. We have one 3-4 D-lineman. We still have no 2nd edge rusher. Our S are okay and we cannot stay healthy at CB.

Like I don't expect the week 1 team to look as bad as the preason shows but I'm not terribly surprised by what the D has shown me.

The one constant with the Huddle? Nobody underestimates Panther talent like Panther fans themselves.

Right? Frankie Luvu is literally right there.

Von Bell, Xavier Woods, Jeremy Chinn, and Sam Franklin Jr are just ok?

DeShawn Williams started for the Broncos last season on the DL for their 3-4.

Justin Houston just signed.

Folks don't have to believe that the defense will play up to their hopes and desires, but willfully dissociating from reality isn't going to help either. 😮

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
