Lots are comparing to recent contracts and you can't do that anymore after Bosa.

Watt, Bosa (both), Garrett, Parsons are all gonna be making 34-38m in a 1-2 years.

29.5-30m is gonna be what that second tier of pass rushers are going to make now that Bosa has reset the market for edge players.

Burns is clearly in that 2nd group.

Here is what I am showing if I am Fitt:

In Bosa's 9 playoff games: 8 sacks, 9 TFL, 34 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and fumble recovery...that' a whole season of stats of Burns in half the time, in the playoffs.

Not only does Bosa put up stats, he steps it up a notch in must win payoff games.

Big time players show up in big time games. Not just against bad O Lines.

There is a 40-60 million guaranteed tier.....and there is a 100 million tier.  Burns is in the 40-60 million tier.  You can even let him reset the top of it like Bosa just did with his tier.

But Burns isn't worth 100+ guaranteed.   He isn't the complete and dominant player like those that belong there.

and folks really need to talk about guranteed and not average per year.  Guaranteed is what counts, the rest if window dressing.

the 100 million dollar guaranteed tier had already been established.  Bosa didn't just create it. Burns isn't in it.

and Chubb, Von Miller, Reddick, etc. were all signed to their deals while that upper tier was being established too.  They didn't fit in it.

You're supposed to get a break when being on a rookie QB salary, not give all of the rest of that to one guy who has deficiencies.

It allows you to pay other players.  Exactly what we will do

5 or 6 million more over 4 years won't affect anything

Everyone saying we dont need to pay him what's the alternative at this point? The Rams trade is gone. Try to trade him for a first?

Biggest younger OLB names this year are Josh Allen, Rashan Gary, and Montez Sweat. I'm sure the first 2 will be paid over 20 a year.

You could probably trade him for a first and next years 2nd to replace some of the picks lost to the Bears. You could probably squeeze an average starter out of the deal too.

Let it go bro.

Burns was worth 40-60 guaranteed 5 years ago.

This is 2023 these contracts are only going to get bigger. Just accept the new market. It's not going to kill us to give Burns 100mil guaranteed.

I again, I am pointing to all the recent contracts.   They are what they are.   You ignoring them doesn't mean they don't exist.   There are different tiers.

Chubb, Von Miller, Reddick.  Those aren't old deals.   Bosa reset the top of a tier that already existed.  That Khalil Mack, his brother were already part of and were setting in recent history.  The 100+ club.  Brian Burns isn't in that tier.  Just a reality.   He is in the tier below.  He should reset the top of that tier.

but then the following year more cap hits your books and then you have less to spend in that year.  Saints had several years where they had huge amounts of dead money counting towards their cap.

I agree most teams, most years, have some slack in their overall cap.  We can free up enough money for Burns, that isn't the question, but there are limits.  This idea that the cap is some myth is just wrong.  Teams just can't pay everyone, you have to decided the best use of your money.

Then you restructure a few guys and get under the cap again like New Orleans did this year to sign Carr.

Again the cap is just a number that teams get around a dozen ways. The idea that you can't manipulate it to get who you want is the myth.  So yeah it isn't the big impediment that you and others here think it is.

    • The only thing I know is nfl red zone.
    • We put a ton of high draft capital into young WRs over the past few years. We drafted a WR in top 2 rounds of the draft in 4 out of the past 5 years. At some point, we need to rely on the dudes we drafted vs relying on veteran role players. That's the only way we're going to evolve as a team and take the next step to going back to winning again.  Remember when Cam lost KB and everyone thought it was the end of the universe? And 2015 happened.  Maybe losing Theilen and Coker will open some opportunities for some other guys to step up.
    • So apparently in the time between the end of the last football season, and now, a TON of streaming sites have been taken down. From what I remember most of these idiotic offiicial streaming services that offer NFL games don't ever offer ALL of the games. I remember subscribing to one service on youtube last season that cost hundreds of dollars and it would still constantly tell me games were either blacked out or unavailable, which is totally ridiculous. Is there any one service that I can watch ALL of the games on?? It gets on my everlasting nerves already that there's so many different streaming sites and they are all expensive as hell. I don't want to take out an entire additional car payment to subscribe to 4 different streaming services to watch all the games. Is there just ONE I can subscribe to? The most comprehensive thing I have access to now is Sirius XM. It's only 10 ish bucks a month and I can listen to the home or away broadcasts of any game. Only thing is I can't WATCH the games but this seriously comes in handy if I'm out doing something, driving, or can't stay still at the moment to watch the games. But usually I'm off on Sundays, so I mostly want to watch them.
